Job summary

Aqovia is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to drive development, core customization, and implementation of our EdTech and LMS platforms. You will build modular features on PHP 8.x, Laravel, and Moodle integrations, focusing on scalable multi-tenant architecture.

You will optimize MySQL/PostgreSQL schemas, implement caching with Redis, and design secure RESTful APIs and webhooks to connect SIS and local payment gateways, while upholding engineering standards and code reviews.

Qualifications

• Proven production-grade experience building, optimising, and maintaining enterprise-scale web apps with Laravel.
• Hands-on Moodle development, including custom plugins and web services.
• Strong understanding of MVC, Repository, and Event-Driven patterns.
• Advanced SQL, indexing, deadlock troubleshooting, and Redis experience.
• High accountability, problem-solving under pressure, and clear communication.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to drive the development, core customisation, and implementation of our enterprise-grade, Educational Technology (EdTech) and Learning Management System (LMS) platforms.

In this role, you will be a key hands-on contributor to a high-performance, multi-tenant application ecosystem built on PHP (Laravel) and deeply integrated with a highly customised Moodle core. You will build clean, modular features and optimise database performance to handle massive concurrent student traffic spikes.

What You Will Do

• PHP & Laravel Development: Write clean, testable, and modular features using PHP 8.x and Laravel that can be programmatically toggled per tenant/institution.

• Moodle Core Integration: Build and maintain the application abstraction layer connecting custom tenant features with Moodle core database models and Web Services APIs.

• Multi-Tenant Architecture: Implement robust database isolation, data separation rules, and permission layers to ensure total security of student records across differing organisations.

• Performance Optimisation: Optimise database schemas and queries (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and implement high-performance caching layers (Redis/Memcached) to minimise database locks during high-traffic exam or registration periods.

• Integrations & Standards: Build secure RESTful APIs and webhooks to connect the LMS with Student Information Systems (SIS) and localised payment gateways using EdTech standards like LTI, SCORM, or xAPI.

• Codebase Stewardship: Adhere to engineering standards, design patterns, and testing protocols across the PHP ecosystem while participating in regular code reviews.

What We Are Looking For

Required Skills & Experience:

• PHP & Laravel Expertise: Solid production-grade experience developing, optimising, and maintaining enterprise-scale web applications via Laravel.

• Moodle Core Competency: Hands-on experience developing within Moodle, including custom plugin architectures, web services creation, hooks, and a firm command over its underlying database schema.

• Software Design: Strong understanding of modern architectural patterns (MVC, Repository, Event-Driven patterns) for clean, maintainable code.

• Database & Cache Management: Strong experience writing complex SQL, optimising indexes, troubleshooting deadlocks, and working with Redis.

• Ownership Mindset: High accountability, exceptional problem-solving skills under pressure, and excellent communication skills.

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with public sector education deployments or Higher Education Commission (HEC) digital initiatives in Pakistan.

• Direct experience writing automated test suites in PHP (PHPUnit).

• Experience deploying containerised workloads using Docker/Kubernetes in cloud environments (AWS/Azure).
