Job summary

Mahaana seeks a Senior QA Engineer in Karachi to own testing strategy and release assurance in an AI-enabled development workflow. You will design, implement, and maintain automated tests; validate AI-generated assets; and work closely with engineers, product, and design to ensure quality across functional and non-functional areas.

You will lead test planning, grow automation coverage, review requirements for clarity, and mentor teammates, while leveraging modern tooling and secure testing

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software QA with strong test automation.
• Experience with automation frameworks and tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, REST Assured, Postman, or similar technologies.
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Java.
• Solid experience testing APIs and backend services, with SQL knowledge for data validation.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins.
• Strong analytical skills to identify edge cases and defects.
• Clear written and verbal communication, including defect reports and quality summaries.
• Experience in Agile teams and Jira usage.
• Interest in AI tools for testing and ability to review AI outputs.

Position Overview

As Mahaana's Senior QA Engineer, you will take ownership of software quality and release assurance. In our AI-assisted development process, code is produced faster than before, making independent and rigorous verification more important. You will be responsible for confirming that the software meets approved requirements and is safe to release.

You will design and execute testing strategies, build and maintain automated test suites, and leverage AI tools to improve test coverage and accelerate feedback. You will work closely with the Technical Business Analyst, engineers, and designers, playing a key role in release decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and own the test strategy across functional, regression, integration, API, performance, and security testing.
• Derive test scenarios directly from requirements and acceptance criteria, maintaining traceability to ensure every requirement has meaningful test coverage.
• Build and maintain automated test suites and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines to ensure every change receives fast and reliable feedback.
• Use AI tools to generate test cases, test data, and automation scripts, and analyze failures. Review and validate their output, maintaining accountability for quality.
• Conduct thorough testing in staging environments using anonymized, realistic data, covering edge cases, error handling, and non-functional behaviour.
• Identify and report clear, reproducible defects, collaborate with engineers on resolutions, and verify fixes.
• Review requirements for ambiguity or untestable scenarios and raise concerns with the Technical Business Analyst before development begins.
• Review unit and integration tests produced by engineers and AI tools to ensure they validate meaningful behaviour.
• Provide quality sign-off and release recommendations supported by testing evidence, and support final acceptance with business stakeholders.
• Track quality metrics, including defect trends, escaped defects, test coverage, and flaky tests, and use findings to improve testing practices.
• Mentor team members on testing practices and the safe use of AI tools for testing.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional experience in software QA, with substantial experience in test automation.
• Strong experience with automation frameworks and tools such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, REST Assured, Postman, or similar technologies.
• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Java.
• Solid experience testing APIs and backend services, with working knowledge of SQL for data validation.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar platforms.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify scenarios and edge cases that others might miss.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare defect reports and quality summaries for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working in Agile teams and with project management tools such as Jira.
• Interest in AI tools for testing and sound judgment in reviewing and validating their output.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with performance and load testing tools such as k6, JMeter, Locust, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with application security testing fundamentals, including OWASP Top 10, and accessibility testing.
• Experience with mobile application testing.
• Experience with test data management and data anonymization.
• Previous experience in financial services or another regulated industry.
