Mahaana (YC W22) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and deliver software using AI-assisted workflows. You will work from clear specs, apply AI coding tools, and own technical outcomes from design to production.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong skills in Python or .NET with APIs, databases, and system design.
• Experience reading, reviewing, and improving code in large codebases.
• Good judgment on architecture and trade-offs with clear written explanations.
• Working knowledge of automated testing, Git workflows, and CI/CD.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot).
• Security awareness and responsible handling of sensitive data.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud and IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).

Responsibilities

• Translate requirements into precise technical plans and document approach for AI development.
• Design and review features using AI coding assistants to accelerate implementation and testing.
• Critically review AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Own the quality of software, including unit and integration tests, with QA collaboration.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code, and diagnose issues via logs and monitoring.
• Collaborate with analysts, designers, and product owners to clarify requirements and identify gaps.
• Define and document team practices for AI agent usage and code reviews.
• Mentor engineers on effective use of AI development tools.

Job description

Position Overview

As Mahaana's Senior Software Engineer, you will help build and deliver software using a modern, AI-assisted development workflow. You will work from clear, well-defined specifications and use AI coding tools and agents, such as Claude Code and Cursor, to design, implement, test, and release features across our codebase.

This is a hands-on senior role requiring strong technical judgment, ownership, and a commitment to engineering quality. You will take responsibility for technical outcomes from specification to production, help establish engineering standards for the effective use of AI tools, and mentor other engineers in adopting these practices. You are not expected to have years of experience with these tools, but you should be curious, rigorous, and willing to develop expertise in AI-assisted development.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate approved requirements into precise technical plans, identifying affected repositories, services, data models, and fields, and documenting the approach so engineers and AI agents can build against it reliably.
• Design, develop, and review features using AI coding assistants and agents to accelerate implementation, unit testing, and refactoring.
• Critically review AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability, ensuring it meets engineering standards before merging.
• Take ownership of the quality of delivered software, including unit and integration tests, and work with QA to confirm that the implementation meets requirements.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code, and help diagnose issues using staging logs and monitoring.
• Collaborate with the Technical Business Analyst, designers, and Product Owners to clarify requirements and identify gaps or risks early.
• Help define and document team practices, including prompt and context conventions, repository guidance for AI agents, code review expectations, and safe-use guidelines.
• Mentor other engineers and share knowledge about effective use of AI development tools.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a proven record of shipping and maintaining production systems.
• Strong skills in at least one backend language and framework used in our technology stack, particularly Python or .NET, with solid fundamentals in APIs, databases, and system design.
• Experience reading, reviewing, and improving other people's code, including large or unfamiliar codebases.
• Good judgment about architecture and technical trade-offs, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly in writing.
• Working knowledge of automated testing, Git workflows, and CI/CD.
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot.
• Sound security awareness, including responsible handling of sensitive data.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with containers, orchestration, and observability tools.
• Experience with React Native mobile development.
• Experience working across multiple repositories or services simultaneously.
• Previous experience in a regulated environment, such as financial services.
• Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or similar tool integrations for AI agents.
• Experience with design-to-code workflows and tools such as Figma.
