Job summary

Abacus is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and platforms for reliable reporting, analytics, and AI use cases. You will integrate data from multiple sources, develop ETL/ELT workflows, and optimise storage, processing, and data quality.

You will collaborate with data architects, analysts, scientists, product teams, and stakeholders to deliver governed, reusable data products that align with business goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field preferred.
• 5–7 years of experience in data engineering, data integration, or related environments.
• Strong SQL and programming in Python, Java, or Scala.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain scalable batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Develop and optimise ETL/ELT workflows that integrate diverse data sources.
• Build and maintain data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouses, data marts, and reusable data products.
• Collaborate with data architects, analysts, data scientists, application teams, Product Owners, and stakeholders to translate requirements into data solutions.
• Implement data quality controls, validation rules, metadata management, lineage, and observability across pipelines.
• Create and maintain data models, schemas, and transformation logic with proper documentation.
• Optimise data processing, storage, and query performance while managing cloud costs.
• Apply data governance, security, retention, and access-control throughout the lifecycle.
• Use Git, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code to support reliable delivery.
• Monitor production workflows, troubleshoot failures, and perform root-cause analysis.
