Product Engineer (Full Stack, AI-Native)

10-xer is hiring for this role on behalf of a client.

The problem

Most of insurance still runs on a blanket approach to risk. Policies get grouped into broad categories and treated alike, even when the risk behind each one is very different. Our client is building an underwriting platform to change that. It analyzes the risk behind every policy before it's issued, and it's dynamic by design: each policy is assessed on its own risk profile, not against a fixed, one-size-fits-all rulebook.

We're hiring a Product Engineer to build it from the ground up.

The role

This isn't a pick-up-tickets job. You'll own the product end to end, from the first conversation with the client to the code running in production. The language on your CV matters far less than whether you can take a messy, real-world problem and ship a product that solves it.

What you'll do

• Build from zero. Shape the architecture and build across frontend, backend, data, and infrastructure. Many of the early technical calls will be yours.
• Work hand in hand with the client. Understand the scope of work from the ground up, break it into a clear plan, and keep the client close as you build. You'll lead requirement discussions, demo progress, and explain tradeoffs in plain language.
• Stay close to the product. Question requirements, propose better solutions, and decide what to build now and what can wait. You care about why a feature exists, not just how to code it.
• Go deep on insurance. Learn how underwriting works, how risk is assessed and priced, and where the blanket approach breaks down. Then turn that knowledge into software.
• Build AI-first. Use AI across your whole workflow, from design and coding to testing, review, and documentation, so you can ship at a pace that used to take a whole team.
• Ship, learn, repeat. Put working versions in front of the client early, act on feedback, and keep improving. You own quality too: testing, security, and reliability matter when you handle insurance data.

Who you are

• A proven builder. 3+ years shipping production software, including at least one product or major feature you built from scratch.
• Full stack and language agnostic. You've worked across frontend, backend, databases, and cloud, and you get productive in an unfamiliar stack fast.
• AI-native. AI is part of how you work every day, not something you try now and then. You lean heavily on coding agents and assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar), and you know how to steer them, verify their output, and catch what they get wrong. That's what makes you language agnostic: AI handles more of the syntax, and you bring the judgment.
• Hungry. You have fire in your belly. You want to build something that matters, you take ownership without being asked, and you keep pushing until it works.
• Curious by nature. You ask why things work the way they do and keep digging. You teach yourself new things because you want to understand them, not because someone asked you to.
• Comfortable with clients. You can lead a requirements conversation, raise hard questions early, push back with reasons, and communicate clearly in English, both spoken and written.
• Interested in insurance. You don't need an insurance background, but you should want one. Assessing risk policy by policy, instead of in blanket categories, should sound like a problem worth solving.

• Experience in insurance, insurtech, fintech, or another data-heavy, regulated industry
• Hands-on work with risk scoring, rules engines, data pipelines, or ML models in production
• AI features you've built into a product, beyond using AI to write code
• Startup or consulting experience where you worked directly with customers
• Side projects or open source work you can show us
