This position is responsible for developing and executing effective inventory planning strategies to ensure optimum availability of materials while maintaining appropriate inventory levels and minimizing carrying costs. The role involves demand forecasting, inventory analysis, replenishment planning, stock optimization, and close coordination with Production, Purchase, Stores, Sales, and Factory Operations.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Planning & Forecasting:
- Monitor inventory levels across factories/locations and ensure optimum utilization of working capital.
- Regularly review inventory ageing and identify opportunities to reduce excess and obsolete stock.
- Develop strategies to improve inventory turnover and reduce inventory holding costs.
- Identify inventory-related risks and develop contingency plans for critical and high-risk materials.
- Monitor material consumption against planned requirements and investigate significant variances.
Inventory Optimization & Control:
- Work closely with thePurchase Departmentto ensure timely replenishment in accordance with inventory plans.
- Provide purchase requirements and forecasts based on inventory levels, consumption trends, lead times, and production schedules.
- Coordinate with Purchase and Stores regarding pending orders, material availability, delivery schedules, and stock risks.
- Monitor supplier lead times and assess their impact on inventory levels and replenishment requirements.
Coordination with Purchase & Stores:
- Regularly liaise with Factory Heads and Production teams to understand production plans, consumption trends, and upcoming material requirements.
- Review inventory requirements for seasonal and non-seasonal production.
- Ensure material availability is aligned with production schedules to avoid production interruptions.
- Analyze variations between planned and actual consumption and recommend corrective actions.
- Support factories in optimizing inventory without compromising production continuity.
Reporting & Analytics:
- Prepare and present periodic reports covering inventory levels, inventory ageing, stock coverage, inventory turnover, excess/obsolete inventory, stockouts, and replenishment status.
- Develop dashboards and analytical reports for management highlighting key inventory trends and risks.
- Monitor inventory KPIs and recommend actions to improve inventory performance.
- Provide management with timely information regarding critical shortages, excess inventory, and inventory-related risks.
- Maintain accurate and updated inventory planning data, including consumption history, lead times, stock levels, reorder points, and safety stocks.
Process Improvement:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance inventory planning, control, and optimization.
- Develop standardized inventory planning practices and ensure effective implementation across relevant locations.
- Review and improve inventory planning parameters based on actual business and consumption trends.
- Promote data-driven inventory planning and effective use of ERP systems.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, inventory controls, and established procedures.
Education & Experience
- Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration.
- 10-12 years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience in inventory management, production planning, MRP, material planning, and supply chain operations.
- Experience in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent will be preferred.
- Strong analytical skills in inventory planning, demand forecasting, and inventory optimization & Dashboard.
- Strong understanding of inventory management concepts includingsafety stock, reorder levels, stock coverage, inventory turnover, ageing.
- Proficiency in ERP systemsor equivalent.
- Strong understanding of material consumption, lead times, replenishment cycles, and production planning.
- Strong command of MS Excel, BI and data analysis.
- Ability to develop and interpret inventory reports and dashboards
