Job summary

Brilliant Systems is seeking a delivery lead who will own multiple client engagements while remaining hands-on with engineering work and architecture input. You will be accountable for delivering what was agreed and for the growth of team members through honest performance conversations.

The role includes running one-to-one growth discussions, maintaining technical standards, conducting interviews, and escalating issues early to prevent project failure.

Qualifications

• Must have managed engineers and helped them improve.
• Hands-on coding ability is still required to review PRs.
• Comfort with client contact and difficult conversations.
• Ability to estimate projects under fixed-price contracts.

Responsibilities

Job description

Lead a delivery team across concurrent client engagements. Still writes code, still in the client conversation.

We do not have a management track that leads away from engineering. Most of this role is people and delivery, and the hands‑on part is not ceremonial. You will be accountable for whether your engagements ship what was agreed, and for whether the people on them are getting better.

What you will do

• Own delivery for several concurrent client engagements.
• Run one-to-ones about growth rather than status, and write the honest performance conversation down.
• Hold the technical standard: code review, architecture input, and the decision to stop and fix something.
• Hire. You will be in the interviews for your own team.
• Escalate early. A project in trouble that reaches leadership late is a management failure.

What we need from you

• You have managed engineers and can describe someone you helped get significantly better.
• Recent hands‑on experience. You can still read a pull request properly.
• Comfort with client contact, including the difficult conversations.
• A view on estimating that survives contact with a fixed price.

Useful but not required

• Agency or consultancy experience, where the client is not internal.
• You have turned a struggling project around and can say what you actually changed.
