Job summary

Indus Hospital Karachi is seeking a qualified professional to provide psychological counseling to DR-TB and drug-susceptible TB patients, five days a week, aligned with WHO and NTP guidelines.

Responsibilities include adherence reinforcement, intake and follow-up counseling, and group sessions, with strict documentation and confidentiality. Candidates should have 1–2 years of relevant TB counseling experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years of relevant TB counseling experience.
• Bachelor's in Clinical Psychology or related Social/Behavioral Sciences.
• Familiarity with WHO and national TB guidelines is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychological counseling to DR-TB and drug-susceptible TB patients five days a week.
• Reinforce treatment adherence without altering regimens unless approved by Clinical Team Lead.
• Conduct intake counseling at enrollment and follow-up every two months during reviews.
• Lead focused group discussions with smear- and culture-negative patients to promote adherence.
• Maintain accurate documentation with strict confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Identify patients needing psychiatric care and coordinate referrals for hospitalization when needed.
• Contribute to monitoring, evaluation tools and documentation across sites.
• Ensure infection prevention protocols are followed during all sessions.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by management as needed.

Job Description

Patient Counseling and Support:Provide psychological counseling to DR-TB and drug-susceptible TB patients five days a week, ensuring all advice and interventions align strictly with WHO and NTP guidelines.

Treatment Coordination and Adherence:Reinforce treatment adherence without altering any treatment regimen unless formally discussed with the clinical team and approved by the Clinical Team Lead.

Baseline and Follow-Up Counseling:Conduct intake counseling sessions for all DR-TB patients at enrollment, and provide structured follow-up counseling at least once every two months during clinical reviews.

Group Counseling Sessions:Lead focused group discussions (FGDs) with smear- and culture-negative patients to promote continued treatment adherence and address psychosocial barriers.

Documentation and Confidentiality:Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation for all patients counseled, ensuring strict compliance with data confidentiality and ethical standards.

Referral and Escalation:Identify patients requiring psychiatric care and coordinate referrals for hospitalization where necessary. Promptly report any behavioral, emotional, or treatment-related concerns to the program, clinical, and field teams.

Monitoring & Evaluation Tools:Contribute to the development of standardized tools for monitoring, evaluation, and documentation of counseling services across all sites.

Infection Control Compliance:Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control protocols during all patient interactions and counseling sessions.

Any other task assigned by management as per need.
