Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced external Veeam Support Specialist to provide operational support being part of Global IT Operations System team. The specialist will act as the operational subject-matter expert for the global Veeam Backup & Recovery environment, supporting a global backup platform, spanning multiple datacenters, cloud services and manufacturing locations.
This is a hands-on specialist role focused on second-line support, infrastructure monitoring and
maintenance, incident resolution, approved changes, patching, upgrades and escalation to Veeam Support. The engagement requires an expert who can work independently while operating under the governance and accountability of Global IT Operations.
Key responsibilities
- Provide second-line support for the global Veeam Backup & Recovery service, taking ownership of assigned technical incidents, service requests and escalations through to resolution.
- Monitor the global backup infrastructure and backup-job dashboards, identify failures or abnormal conditions, and follow the agreed escalation path when local or regional action is required.
- Monitor and maintain the Veeam infrastructure, including Veeam Enterprise Manager, Veeam ONE, Veeam Backup & Replication servers, Windows and Linux proxies, repositories, and backup agents.
- Troubleshoot recurring backup failures, perform root cause analysis and recommend or implement corrective and preventive actions within the approved operational scope.
- Support restores validation and troubleshooting activities.
- Modify backup schedules and implement approved configuration or infrastructure changes in accordance with change-management procedures and technical standards.
- Support backup-security controls, encryption and platform hardening activities.
- Apply Veeam hotfixes and minor patches, plan and coordinate minor-version upgrades, test upgrades before production rollout
- Provide hands-on support for major-version upgrades led by Global Technology L3 team.
- Open, manage and progress support cases with Veeam, provide diagnostic evidence, escalates complex product issues and coordinate vendor follow-up until resolution.
- Produce and maintain accurate operational documentation, runbooks, change records, incident notes and knowledge articles, and actively transfer Veeam knowledge to the Global IT Operations System team.
- Proactively assess the Veeam environment and recommend improvements to reliability, performance, security and operational efficiency.
Required skills and experience
- Solid knowledge of Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V environments, Windows Server, enterprise storage, networking and Azure Blob Storage as they relate to Veeam operations.
- Expert-level, hands-on experience administering and supporting enterprise Veeam Backup & Replication environments in production.
- Advanced knowledge of Veeam Backup & Replication, Enterprise Manager, Veeam ONE and the supporting Veeam infrastructure and cloud integrations.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, restore operations and technical escalations.
- Experience with Veeam patching, upgrades, security hardening and backup-security best practices.
- Current Veeam technical certification is highly desirable.
- Experience working within ITIL-based incident, problem and change-management processes, with disciplined documentation and runbook maintenance.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize operational activities, communicate effectively in English and collaborate with Global IT Operations, Technology L3, Regional / Local IT and external vendors.
- Strong consulting mindset with the ability to identify improvements, influence technical decisions and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What we require
- Experience 5+ years of relevant infrastructure and backup experience, including at least 5 years of advanced hands-on Veeam experience
- Education Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent professional experience
- The role may initially start on a full-time basis, with the possibility of transitioning to 20 hours per week at a later stage. Flexibility to support planned approved changes, upgrades and unexpected critical escalations outside standard hours.
