Job summary

SMEC is seeking a Senior Civil/Bridge Engineer in the Philippines with 15+ years of experience to lead complex bridge and structural design tasks. You will review technical deliverables, supervise teams, and ensure quality across multiple projects while coordinating with clients and stakeholders to meet time and cost targets.

The role requires strong communication skills, mentoring ability, and a track record in delivering high-level design solutions in a consultancy setting.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (MSCE) preferred.
• Licensed Civil Engineer preferred.
• Minimum 15+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong experience in bridge design.
• Experience in structural design and design review.
• Experience in technical review and quality assurance of structural designs and engineering deliverables.
• Familiar with Philippine Codes, AASHTO, Australian Standards, and relevant specifications.
• Experience working in an engineering consultancy/consulting environment preferred.
• Experience with international consulting firms is an advantage.
• Overseas experience with exposure to international design standards is an advantage.

• Provide expert advice and undertake key complex technical tasks with a high degree of independence across a broad range of projects.
• Monitor and manage the scope and risk of multiple projects of varying size and complexity.
• Apply high level skills in safety in design practices and processes.
• Deliver best client outcomes which have resulted in cost savings.

• Prepare complex technical reports and successful proposals on small, medium, and large projects.
• Utilise excellent time management skills with the ability to efficiently plan workloads and meet deadlines.

• Experience reviewing and checking structural calculations, design drawings, and BIM models.
• Familiar with Philippine Codes, AASHTO, Australian Standards, and relevant specifications.
• Experience working in an engineering consultancy/consulting environment preferred.
• Experience with international consulting firms (e.g., WSP, TYLin, Arcadis, etc.) is an advantage.
• Overseas experience with exposure to international design standards and specifications is an advantage.
• Candidates with strong local bridge design experience are also acceptable.
• High-level consulting and client management skills.
• Proven project management skills.
• Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and mentoring skills.
