Job summary

XtalPi is seeking a Director/Senior Manager of Business Development for automated chemistry solutions. The role targets candidates in Boston, San Diego, or San Francisco to drive growth across pharma and biotech partnerships.

Responsibilities include developing BD plans, engaging senior decision-makers, leading discussions on Custom Library Design and Synthesis and VAST offerings, and communicating the value of AI-enabled, automated chemistry platforms while managing long, cross-functional sales

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MS or PhD) is a plus.
• 5+ years of business development, strategic sales, or account management in CRO services, medicinal chemistry, library synthesis, or drug discovery platforms.
• Strong network within the pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry.
• Experience selling technically differentiated, solution-based services.
• Proven track record in navigating long sales cycles and engaging scientific stakeholders effectively.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, execution discipline, and ability to drive results in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to travel (estimated 30%).
• Experience in chemistry services, automated synthesis solutions, or chemical space exploration methods is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute business development plans to drive the growth of automated library synthesis solutions.
• Identify, engage, and build relationships with key decision-makers in pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
• Lead sales discussions for two core offerings: Customized Library Design and Synthesis for strategic partnerships; XtalPi's VAST space for rapid access to novel compounds.
• Clearly communicate the value proposition of AI-enabled and automated chemistry platforms to technical decision-makers.
• Manage complex, consultative sales cycles involving cross-functional technical discussions.
• Identify customer pain points in drug discovery, mainly working with medicinal and computational chemistry groups.
• Collaborate closely with internal scientific, automation, and operations teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Build long-term strategic accounts while expanding the broader customer base.
