Job summary

Staff X is seeking a dedicated Stormwater Engineer to support a civil and structural practice. You will focus on on-site detention, drainage reports, and council approvals for residential and light commercial projects in Greater Sydney, operating with autonomy from design through to approval.

You will work from a home office in the Philippines, handling projects for clients in Australia with a strong emphasis on stormwater strategies and OSD design.

Job description

This is a specialist stormwater engineering role built around OSD design and hydraulic modelling; not a generalist civil position where drainage is one of a dozen tasks.

THE ROLE

You will work as a dedicated Stormwater Engineer supporting a civil and structural engineering practice servicing residential and light commercial projects across Greater Sydney. Your day-to-day output will be stormwater management strategies, OSD designs, drainage reports, and council approval documentation: this is your discipline, not a secondary function. You will carry an assigned portfolio of projects and manage them with genuine autonomy from design through to approval.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Design on-site detention systems for Class 1 residential dwellings, new builds, alterations and additions, and luxury residential projects
• Prepare stormwater management strategies and drainage reports for residential and light commercial projects including medical centres and small commercial developments
• Navigate council-specific drainage requirements across multiple Greater Sydney local government areas, adapting designs project-by-project to meet each authority's standards
• Use DRAINS by Watercom as your primary hydraulic modelling and OSD design tool across all stormwater deliverables
• Liaise directly with local councils and project architects to secure stormwater approvals and resolve design queries
• Manage your assigned project portfolio with reasonable autonomy, escalating to senior engineers where required

WHAT YOU BRING

• Demonstrated proficiency in DRAINS by Watercom for hydraulic modelling and OSD design — this is a non-negotiable technical requirement
• Three to five years of stormwater engineering experience as your primary discipline, not as a secondary function within a broader civil role
• Proven track record in OSD design and stormwater drainage for residential and light commercial projects
• Working knowledge of Australian Standards and council drainage requirements across Greater Sydney local government areas
• Ability to independently prepare stormwater management strategies, drainage reports, and approval documentation from brief through to submission

WORK ARRANGEMENT

This is a full work-from-home role. You will work from your own home office, based in the Philippines, with a dedicated workspace and a stable internet connection.
