Qualifications

Stormwater design work that is structured, measurable, and built for someone who wants to go deep on a single discipline — this is a full-time Civil Engineer (Stormwater Design) role where your daily output is tracked, your progression is real, and the work is consistent residential drainage from day one.

THE ROLE

You will work directly from a live job register, producing stormwater drainage plans and calculations for residential projects across South Australia — single dwellings, duplexes, and small multi-dwelling developments. This is not a generalist civil role with scattered responsibilities; it is a focused stormwater design position where your primary measure of performance is the quality and volume of completed jobs. As your competence grows, the role expands: strong performers move toward independently checking other engineers' work and submitting finalised plans directly to clients without an additional review layer.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Work from the job register to complete allocated residential stormwater design jobs independently, covering single dwellings, duplexes, and small multi-dwelling developments.
• Produce stormwater drainage plans and calculations to a standard that requires minimal revision, targeting approximately one and a half hours per single-dwelling job at full productivity.
• Submit completed designs to the reviewing engineer, incorporate markup feedback accurately, and finalise drawings for client submission.
• Maintain a daily output of approximately three jobs across varying complexity levels once fully productive — typically two single-dwelling jobs and one multi-dwelling job per day.
• Communicate proactively via Microsoft Teams throughout the working day, flagging blockers early and responding to messages promptly during work hours.
• Apply knowledge of South Australian council requirements and Australian Standards to ensure all designs meet local regulatory expectations.
• Progress toward independently checking work produced by other engineers and submitting finalised stormwater plans directly to clients as competence is demonstrated.

WHAT YOU BRING

• AutoCAD proficiency with a minimum of two to three years of hands‑on experience producing engineering drawings — this is a non‑negotiable core requirement; familiarity with Civil 3D and DRAINS hydraulic modelling software is a strong advantage.
• Demonstrated experience in civil drafting within residential construction or land development projects.
• Some exposure to stormwater or drainage design — candidates with zero exposure to this domain are not suitable for this position.
• Strong foundational understanding of civil engineering principles applicable to residential‑scale projects.
• Competency in Microsoft Excel for managing stormwater calculations and spreadsheet‑based workflows.
• Strong English communication skills with the ability to respond promptly on Microsoft Teams and collaborate effectively with a geographically distributed team.
