Remote Talent, an Australian-based virtual assistant agency, is seeking a Drafting & Estimating VA to support a structural steel fabrication business in Western Australia. The role blends 2D CAD drafting and estimating with job scheduling and quote/invoice follow-ups during drafting downtime.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in steel fabrication or a related trade, with strong 2D CAD drafting and annotation skills, ideally including SketchUp.

Competenze

• Hands-on experience in structural steel fabrication or architectural metalwork.
• Strong ability to read and interpret architectural/structural drawings.
• Proficiency in 2D CAD drafting and annotation.
• Experience with SketchUp or similar CAD/3D software.
• Experience with trade software (Factory, Simpro, ServiceM8, Bluebeam, Buildxact).
• Strong estimating skills and attention to detail.
• Good written English and client email correspondence.

We specialise in sourcing, training, and managing dedicated VAs across admin, customer support, finance, marketing, and industry-specific roles including NDIS, healthcare, property, and trades.

About the Role

We're looking for a Drafting & Estimating VA to support a growing structural steel fabrication business based in Western Australia. The role combines 2D CAD drafting and estimating with job scheduling and quote/invoice follow-ups during drafting downtime.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in steel fabrication or a related trade, with strong 2D CAD drafting and annotation skills, ideally including SketchUp.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed 2D shop drawings and annotations for steel fabrication and installation.
• Create basic 3D models and visualizations for client approvals.
• Interpret architectural plans, structural drawings, and site measurements.
• Complete material takeoffs and prepare project costings and quotes.
• Enter project details, materials, and labor estimates into job management software.
• Schedule approved jobs and follow up on outstanding quotes and unpaid invoices.
• Assist with improving costing templates and item catalogs within the job management system.

What We Are Looking For

• Hands-on experience in structural steel, steel fabrication, or architectural metalwork.
• Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
• Proficiency in 2D CAD drafting and annotation.
• Experience with SketchUp, Shapr3D, or comparable CAD/3D software.
• Experience with Factory, Simpro, ServiceM8, Bluebeam, Buildxact, or similar trade software.
• Strong estimating skills, numerical accuracy, and attention to detail.
• Good written English and confidence handling client email correspondence.

Important:

This role is best suited to someone with a background in steel fabrication or a related trade. General CAD experience without relevant fabrication or estimating knowledge may not be enough.
