Job summary

The Staff Nurse for LTP – ICU is responsible for providing specialized critical‑care nursing services during long‑term placement in the Intensive Care Unit. The involves continuous patient monitoring, administration of prescribed treatments, operation of critical‑care equipment, emergency response, and maintaining high standards of patient safety and infection control.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU.
• Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythm, oxygen saturation, and neurological status.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, injections, and other treatments as prescribed.
• Monitor and manage patients receiving ventilator and respiratory support.
• Operate and monitor ICU equipment including ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and syringe pumps.
• Assist physicians during invasive and critical-care procedures.
• Respond promptly to medical emergencies and code situations.
• Maintain accurate ICU nursing notes, observation charts, and patient records.
• Monitor patient response to treatment and promptly report clinical changes.
• Assist with procedures such as central line care, catheterization, suctioning, and specimen collection.
• Maintain strict infection-control and aseptic practices.
• Follow ICU protocols for medication administration and patient safety.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and patient-care planning.
• Coordinate with consultants, residents, respiratory therapists, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Provide appropriate updates and basic care guidance to patients attendants as directed.
• Assist with safe patient transfers within and outside the ICU.
• Ensure proper availability and functioning of ICU equipment and emergency supplies.
• Maintain adequate stock of medicines, consumables, and nursing supplies.
• Follow biomedical waste-management and infection-prevention protocols.
• Participate in quality improvement, audits, and hospital accreditation activities.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional nursing ethics.
• Participate in shift handovers to ensure continuity of patient care.
• Attend ICU training, competency assessments, and continuing nursing education programs.
• Support end‑of‑life and palliative care procedures when required.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the ICU Incharge, Nursing Superintendent, or Hospital Administration.
