Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in paper mill operations, preferably with supervisory roles.
• In-depth knowledge of Stock Preparation, Wet End, Press Section, Dry End, Winder and Boiler.
• Knowledge of paper-making raw materials, chemicals, machinery, consumables, and product quality specs.
• Ability to supervise regular and agency personnel and manage shift manpower.
• Strong leadership, communication, coordination, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure sufficient manpower for the entire shift and coordinate with HR for overtime.
• Monitor operators to maintain machine and consumable conditions.
• Oversee safety and environmental practices and PPE usage.
• Coordinate with Maintenance, EMS, HR, and Guard Officer for info or assistance.
• Prepare Shift Supervisor’s Reports and report significant issues to Production Head.

Job description

Job Overview:

The Paper Mill Production Shift Supervisor is responsible for achieving target production output of paper products with the required quality for customers. This involves efficient management of workers (both regular and agency), optimal use of raw materials, chemicals, electricity, and water, ensuring safety and environmental sustainability.

Duties:

• Oversee the workers (regular and agency) during the entire shift.

• Ensure all machines and consumables (e.g., Fourdrinier Wire, Press Felts, Doctor Blades) are in good condition.

• Manage the operation of various sections of the paper mill (Stock Preparation, Wet End, Dry End, Winder, and Boiler).

• Properly utilize chemicals.

• Economize the use of fresh water and avoid discharging untreated water.

• Optimize electricity usage.

• Ensure the safety of all workers and machinery.

• Coordinate with supervisors/heads of other sections/departments.

• Maintain cleanliness throughout the paper mill.

• Prepare shift reports (written and via cellphone) for superiors.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure sufficient manpower for the entire shift operation and coordinate with HR and other sections for manpower needs, including overtime.

• Participate in training and development of staff.

• Monitor key operators to ensure they perform their duties, maintaining machine and consumable conditions.

• Take steps for machine check-ups or immediate shutdowns for part replacements to prevent major damages.

• Supervise the proper operation of equipment in Stock Preparation to produce quality fibrous stock.

• Oversee the proper use of raw materials in the pulper and chemicals for paper production.

• Monitor the operation of the Wet End Section, Press Section, Dry End Section, and Winder.

• Conserve fresh water usage in Stock Prep and Wet End, avoiding the discharge of untreated water.

• Economize electricity by resting motors not in continuous use (e.g., Refiner, lights, etc.).

• Ensure product quality (e.g., basis weight, sheet cleanliness, shade, smoothness, moisture content, roll hardness, cut size, diameter).

• Ensure the use of PPE (e.g., safety shoes, bump cap/hard hat, gloves, goggles/eye glasses, face mask) and safe conduct of workers to prevent accidents.

• Ensure cleanliness of individual workstations and the surrounding environment.

• Coordinate with Maintenance, EMS, HR, and Guard Officer for necessary information or assistance.

• Prepare a written Shift Supervisor’s Report and report significant issues to the Production Head via cellphone.

Qualifications:

• College level required; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing, or related field is highly preferred.

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in paper mill operations, preferably with supervisory or senior operator experience.

• In-depth knowledge of Stock Preparation, Wet End, Press Section, Dry End, Winder, and Boiler operations.

• Knowledge of paper-making raw materials, chemicals, machinery, consumables, and product quality specifications.

• Knowledge of basic troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, workplace safety, PPE, and environmental practices.

• Demonstrated ability to supervise regular and agency personnel and manage manpower during shift operations.

• Strong leadership, communication, coordination, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to monitor and achieve production targets while controlling raw material, chemical, water, and electricity consumption.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and capable of preparing shift and production reports.

• Physically capable of inspecting and monitoring operations throughout the paper mill.

• Willing to work on a shifting schedule and in a demanding manufacturing environment.
