Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Senior Network Engineer (Office Connect) within Global Connectivity Solutions (GCS) is responsible for executing vulnerability remediation, lifecycle management, production upgrades, and technical governance activities across campus network technologies. The role provides technical leadership for Cisco Catalyst and Meraki switching and wireless environments, ensuring infrastructure remains secure, current, resilient, and aligned with approved engineering standards.


The position plans and leads remediation waves, firmware upgrades, production changes, complex troubleshooting, and service restoration activities. It works closely with Network Engineering, Network Operations, Information Security, Change Management, Outage Management, OSTS, Workplace Technology, Product Owners, vendors, and other stakeholders to deliver upgrades safely and minimize business disruption.


Job Description


  • Drive vulnerability remediation activities across Cisco Catalyst switching, Cisco wireless infrastructure, Meraki switching, Meraki wireless, and associated campus network platforms.

  • Perform and lead software and firmware upgrades for Cisco Catalyst 9000 Series switches, Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controllers, Cisco access points, Meraki MS switches, Meraki MR access points, and supporting network infrastructure.

  • Review OEM security advisories, software recommendations, field notices, defects, and end-of-sale/end-of-life announcements, and translate applicable findings into remediation and lifecycle activities.

  • Manage software lifecycle and platform currency for Cisco Catalyst, Cisco wireless, and Meraki campus technologies in accordance with approved standards and compliance timelines.

  • Plan and execute code upgrades, firmware updates, platform refreshes, configuration remediation, and technology migration activities across global office environments.

  • Perform pre-upgrade assessments, compatibility checks, configuration reviews, image validation, risk analysis, and post-upgrade health checks.

  • Prepare implementation plans, rollback procedures, validation plans, technical assessments, stakeholder communications, and deployment documentation.

  • Create and maintain Change Requests, Change Tasks, implementation records, approvals, test evidence, and closure documentation in accordance with established processes.

  • Present technical changes during Change Advisory Board reviews and address questions related to impact, risk, dependencies, validation, recovery, and stakeholder readiness.

  • Coordinate testing, outage planning, deployment execution, stabilization, and post-implementation validation with globally distributed technical and business teams.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of campus LAN, Cisco Catalyst switching, Cisco wireless, Meraki switching, and Meraki wireless environments.

  • Troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 issues involving VLANs, trunking, STP/RSTP/MST, EtherChannel, first-hop redundancy, routing, access control, segmentation, and policy enforcement.

  • Diagnose and resolve wireless issues involving client connectivity, AIRRM, RF Planning, 802.1X authentication, roaming, RF performance, channel utilization, interference, coverage, capacity, radio optimization, and client experience.

  • Apply working knowledge of enterprise Wi-Fi standards including 802.11ac, 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), and Wi-Fi 6E during upgrade planning, compatibility assessment, validation, and troubleshooting.

  • Use Cisco Catalyst Center Assurance, Software Image Management, Meraki Dashboard, wireless analytics, monitoring tools, logs, and packet captures to identify and resolve service-impacting issues.

  • Lead technical recovery for incidents affecting campus switching, wireless infrastructure, access services, or production upgrade activities, and participate in outage bridges and service restoration efforts.

  • Perform root cause analysis, identify corrective and preventive actions, and support Problem Management by analyzing recurring issues and driving permanent technical resolutions.

  • Lead assigned remediation waves, switch refreshes, wireless modernization initiatives, access point refreshes, and campus infrastructure upgrades.

  • Provide implementation feedback, operational considerations, feasibility inputs, and technical recommendations to Engineering teams for proposed design changes when requested.

  • Maintain operational runbooks, implementation procedures, remediation documentation, software compliance records, upgrade history, wireless standards documentation, and deployment outcomes.

  • Identify and support opportunities for automation, standardization, compliance validation, pre-checks, post-checks, inventory management, monitoring, and reporting.

  • Provide technical guidance to Associate and Senior Associate engineers and support consistent execution of campus network remediation and lifecycle activities.


Knowledge & Competencies Required:


  • Strong hands-on expertise in Cisco Catalyst 9000 Series switching platforms and enterprise Layer 2/Layer 3 campus technologies.

  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst 9800 Wireless Controllers, enterprise access points, wireless lifecycle management, and software upgrades.

  • Hands-on knowledge of Meraki MS Switching, Meraki MR Wireless, Meraki Dashboard administration, device onboarding, firmware governance, wireless health, and client analytics.

  • Strong understanding of VLANs, trunking, STP/RSTP/MST, EtherChannel/LACP, HSRP/VRRP, ACLs, DHCP Snooping, Dynamic ARP Inspection, port security, and basic campus routing.

  • Strong knowledge of wireless fundamentals including RF behavior, channel planning, interference, coverage, capacity, roaming, authentication, and client troubleshooting.

  • Working knowledge of Wi-Fi standards, including 802.11ac, 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), and Wi-Fi 6E.

  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst Center (DNA Center), Catalyst Center Assurance, Software Image Management, configuration compliance, inventory, analytics, and troubleshooting capabilities.

  • Experience assessing vendor security advisories and delivering vulnerability remediation, firmware lifecycle, and infrastructure modernization activities.

  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability across switching, wireless, authentication, connectivity, and production upgrade issues.

  • Working knowledge of ITIL practices, particularly Change, Incident, Problem, Risk, and Release Management.

  • Ability to prepare clear implementation plans, rollback procedures, validation plans, technical documentation, and CAB presentations.

  • Knowledge of network monitoring, observability, analytics, and automation platforms.

  • Experience using APIs, Python, Ansible, or related automation capabilities is desirable.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder coordination, vendor management, and influencing skills in a matrixed global environment.

  • Risk-based decision making, strong ownership, attention to detail, and a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Willingness to work in a global support model, including rotational shifts and planned activities across multiple time zones.

  • Flexibility to support maintenance windows, production deployments, software upgrades, vulnerability remediation, and incident recovery outside regular business hours when required.

  • Ready to travel when required to support project, deployment, remediation, or operational activities.
