Maya is building the in-house Core Banking System within the CBS Mesh, part of a Savings and Deposits platform. This Senior Software Engineer will drive backend development, microservices, and platform modernization to align legacy services with the new architecture.

You will work across multiple squads, mentoring engineers and shaping technical direction while leveraging AI-assisted tools for efficient design, coding, and testing, ensuring robust, scalable production code.

This Senior Software Engineer sits within the CBS (Core Banking Services) Mesh, focused on building the in-house Core Banking System for the Savings and Deposits Mesh

This engineer will also be deeply engaged in modernizing the existing CBS services — re-pointing them at the new in-house platform instead.

NATURE OF WORK

• Design and build microservices across the platform’s build tiers
• Work across a genuinely cross-team surface: the ledger team, in house team, account management system team, etc
• Contribute to architecture and sequencing decisions in a 24-month, multi-squad program, where several tiers and several products are being built in parallel by different squads.
• Use AI-assisted development tools as a standard part of the workflow — for design exploration, boilerplate/test generation, and spec drafting — while remaining personally accountable for the correctness of anything shipped, given the domain.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years professional software engineering, the majority in backend/distributed systems (not front-end or purely data/analytics roles)
• Strong, demonstrable Java and OOP fundamentals — this is the primary language for the new platform’s services
• Understanding of OOP and software design patterns
• Guide and mentor junior engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and technical leadership.

Must have:

• Strong knowledge of Java (or other backend programming language such as Node.js, Python, Go)
• Strong knowledge of server-side frameworks (e.g. Spring Boot)
• Hands on experience working with AWS services and tools
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and best practices.
• Hands-on experience with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, andAPI gateway and cloud infra like AWS.
• Heavy, daily working use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent) on real production codebases, with the judgment to know when to trust AI output and when not to
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent demonstrable practical experience

Nice to have:

• Prior experience with, or migrating off, a vendor core banking platform (Mambu, Temenos, Thought Machine Vault, Finxact, 10x, Finacle) — direct familiarity with what this program is replacing
• Experience with event sourcing / CQRS architectures
• Experience building or maintaining financial reconciliation systems (matching transactions across two systems of record)
• Prior experience specifically running a "strangler fig" style migration — old and new systems live simultaneously, traffic cut over gradually
• Familiarity with Philippine banking regulatory context (BSP deposit regulations, BIR withholding tax treatment) — helpful, not expected on day one
• Infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform or equivalent)
