Job summary

SMEC (An SJ Group Company) seeks an experienced Environmental professional for a project-based role in the Philippines. You will develop and implement environmental strategies, oversee contractor performance, and ensure compliance with Philippine laws and lender requirements.

Responsibilities include audits, due diligence, risk assessment, and staff training. Candidates should have a Bachelor's in Environmental Engineering and at least five years in construction environmental management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
• At least five years of environmental management experience, including leading compliance on active construction sites.
• Experience in construction projects, water quality monitoring for dredging, and reclamation.
• Experience in environmental studies, planning, and monitoring of engineering projects.
• Demonstrated technical ability and ability to work independently.
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; able to report to clients and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements environmental strategies, policies, practices and action plans to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Oversee daily project activities and contractor performance for compliance with the project’s Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Philippine environmental laws, permits and regulatory requirements.
• Apply IFC Performance Standards and ADB safeguards in day-to-day site management.
• Coordinate environmental and social due diligence and compliance audits.
• Audit, analyse and report on environmental performance and track corrective actions.
• Provide necessary professional advice for environmental impact assessments to reduce project risks.
• Promotes and trains staff on environmental issues and responsibilities.
