Environmental Compliance Lead – Construction Projects

Job summary

SMEC is seeking an experienced Environmental professional to deliver and oversee environmental management for active projects in the Philippines. You will develop strategies, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage contractors while liaising with local authorities and lenders.

The role requires extensive field experience on construction sites, expertise in environmental standards, and the ability to lead audits and due diligence across Southeast Asia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
• At least five years of progressively responsible environmental management experience, including leading environmental compliance on active construction sites.
• Experience in construction projects, water quality monitoring for dredging, and reclamation projects.
• Experience in Environmental studies, planning, and monitoring of engineering projects.
• Demonstrated technical ability and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements environmental strategies, policies, practices and action plans to ensure smooth project delivery.
• Oversee daily project activities and contractor performance to ensure compliance with the Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan and conditions.
• Ensure compliance with environmental laws, permits and regulatory requirements.
• Apply IFC Performance Standards and ADB Safeguard Policy Statement in site management.
• Coordinate pollution control, waste management, environmental health and conservation on site.
• Plan and document environmental and social due diligence and audits.
• Audit, analyse and report on environmental performance and track corrective actions.
• Provide professional advice for environmental impact assessments to reduce risks.
• Promote awareness and training on environmental issues to staff at all levels.
• Monitor contractor compliance to the Environmental Monitoring and Management plan on site.
• Identify emerging environmental risks and take timely action.
