Job summary

SMEC (an SJ Group company) seeks an Environmental Manager for project-based work in the Philippines. You will lead environmental compliance on active construction sites, ensure adherence to local laws and lender standards, and manage audits and mitigation measures.

The role requires strong technical, communication, and project management skills, with potential deployment across Southeast Asia. Immediate project-based engagement in the Philippines is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
• At least five years of progressively responsible environmental management on active construction sites.
• Experience in construction projects, water quality monitoring for dredging and reclamation.
• Experience in environmental studies, planning and monitoring of engineering projects.
• Demonstrated technical ability and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills for client and contractor communications.
• Willing to accept project-based assignments and deployments in SE Asia.
• CAD, GIS or Photoshop are a plus.
• Project management ability is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements environmental strategies, policies and action plans for smooth project delivery.
• Oversee daily project activities and contractor performance per Environmental Monitoring and Management Plan.
• Ensure compliance with Philippine environmental laws, permits and lender requirements.
• Apply IFC and ADB safeguards in site management and escalation of non-compliance.
• Coordinate pollution control, waste management and environmental health on site.
• Lead environmental and social due diligence and audits per Equator Principles.
• Audit, analyse and report on environmental performance; track corrective actions to closure.
• Provide professional advice for environmental impact assessments.
• Promote awareness and train staff on environmental issues and responsibilities.
• Monitor contractor compliance with the Environment Monitoring and Management plan.
• Lead environmental management meetings with contractor and employer; define corrective actions and follow up.
• Coordinate with Southeast Asia Environment Team for site updates and knowledge sharing.
