Job summary

Atlassian invites applications for a Senior Engineering Manager for Search Infrastructure. You will lead a team focused on large-scale search capabilities, guiding technical direction, reliability, and performance. Senior Engineering Manager, Search Infrastructure

In this role, you’ll lead a team responsible for critical search platform capabilities that underpin performance, reliability, and scale.

Set technical and execution direction for a team working on large-scale search infrastructure.

Partner with senior engineers, product, and adjacent platform teams to define roadmaps, manage trade-offs, and deliver durable platform improvements.

Lead through incident readiness, operational reviews, capacity planning, and architecture decisions for high-availability systems.

Hire, coach, and develop engineers and managers, creating clarity, accountability, and growth across the team.

Improve engineering effectiveness by strengthening planning, prioritization, technical design, and delivery rhythms.

Requirements:

Proven experience leading high-performing engineering teams that build and operate large-scale distributed systems.

Demonstrated success managing senior engineers and driving delivery in complex, cross-team environments. Experience growing staff-level technical leadership and beyond.

Strong technical judgment in areas such as reliability, performance, scalability, observability, and system design. Ability to influence architecture and engineering standards beyond the immediate team.

Experience operating business-critical services with clear ownership of availability, incident response, and operational health.

Ability to translate broad organizational goals into clear team priorities, execution plans, and measurable outcomes. Experience managing through technical ambiguity, organizational change, or evolving team charters.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, especially with senior technical and organizational leaders.

Strongly Preferred:

Experience with search infrastructure, indexing systems, large-scale data pipelines for search/ML, storage engines, or low-latency retrieval systems.

Track record of leading platform teams that serve many internal customers and balance roadmap work with reliability investment.
