Job summary

SMEC is seeking a Senior Engineering Geologist to lead geological assessments for dams, hydropower, pumped storage, tunneling and major underground works in the Philippines. You will review borehole logs, map geology, evaluate rock mass quality and hazards, and support safety-critical design and construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geology or related field; master’s preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in engineering geology.
• At least 5 years in dams, hydropower, tunnels, or large underground works.

Responsibilities

• Review geological mapping, borehole logs, and subsurface data.
• Assess rock mass quality, faults, fractures, and discontinuities.
• Evaluate conditions at dam, tunnel, powerhouse sites.
• Interpret geotechnical and geophysical results.
• Develop geological models to support design and construction.
• Identify hazards including landslides, seepage, and seismic risk.
• Coordinate with engineers, regulators, and contractors.
• Monitor geology during construction and support safety reviews.
