Job summary

WSP in Manila is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to shape electrical network concepts for HV/MV systems across infrastructure and data-centre projects. You will design substations (AIS/GIS), underground cables, and associated primary plant, coordinating with utilities and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline; postgraduate study desirable.
• Typically 7+ years of relevant experience in design and delivery of HV/MV electrical networks, substations or major infrastructure power systems.
• Strong practical knowledge of EHV, HV and MV network design, substation primary systems and interfaces between primary plant and secondary systems.
• Demonstrated experience developing power-supply solutions from utility connection through substations and distribution networks to loads.
• Experience designing AIS and/or GIS substations and specifying transformers, switchgear, instrument transformers, surge arresters, busbars and neutral earthing equipment.
• Experience with underground HV/MV cable systems, including sizing, derating, bonding and earthing, routing, joints and terminations, and civil interfaces.
• Ability to prepare and review single-line diagrams, layouts, specifications, datasheets, equipment schedules, cable schedules and calculation packages.
• Sound understanding of load flow, voltage drop, fault levels, equipment ratings, protection coordination, insulation coordination, earthing and lightning protection.
• Experience with critical infrastructure or data-centre power systems, including high-availability configurations and continuity-of-service considerations.
• Working knowledge of relevant Australian, IEC and project-specific standards and utility requirements.
• Experience coordinating with utilities, clients, OEMs, contractors and multidisciplinary teams across concept, design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning.
• Strong technical writing and spoken English, with ability to communicate complex electrical concepts across countries and time zones.

Responsibilities

• Comply with SHEQ, quality, governance, ethics and risk-management obligations; apply Safety in Design throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Manila and Australian Power & Energy teams, clients, utilities and contractors.
• Develop electrical network concepts and design solutions for EHV, HV and MV systems.
• Define electrical supply philosophy, connection arrangement, topology, voltage levels and redundancy for new/upgraded facilities.
• Prepare and review single-line diagrams, layouts, schematics, datasheets, schedules and technical calculations.
• Undertake load assessments, demand forecasts, voltage-drop and cable-rating calculations, short-circuit assessments, insulation coordination and network performance checks.
• Design and specify EHV/HV/MV substations, including AIS and GIS solutions, transformers, switchgear and busbars.
• Design and specify underground cable systems, including conductor sizing, derating, bonding and earthing, sheath voltage and losses.
• Develop earthing and lightning protection design inputs and coordinate with protection and control systems.
• Coordinate interfaces with protection, SCADA, telecommunications, metering, civil, structural, mechanical, fire and security teams.
• Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, programmes and resource planning; support client engagement and technical presentations.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers; promote best practices across the team.
