Qualifications
- 3-5 years of bookkeeping experience, including substantial experience in an Australian accounting or bookkeeping practice
- Strong knowledge of Australian bookkeeping, GST, BAS, PAYG withholding, payroll processing, and superannuation requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Xero and associated bookkeeping applications
- Familiarity with Dext, Deputy, Square, Lightspeed, or similar platforms is an advantage
- Sound understanding of general ledger accounting and balance sheet reconciliations
- Ability to investigate and resolve complex bookkeeping issues
- Experience managing client relationships, multiple files, and competing deadlines
- Ability to review other bookkeepers' work and mentor junior team members
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills when working with business owners, managers, and accountants
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently
Responsibilities
- Manage bookkeeping requirements for a portfolio of clients across multiple industries using Xero.
- Oversee the quality and accuracy of client bookkeeping records.
- Prepare and review bank, credit card, payroll, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes.
- Prepare and review payroll, including superannuation and related obligations.
- Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS).
- Review GST, PAYG withholding, payroll, and superannuation reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve complex bookkeeping and reconciliation issues.
- Review general ledger accounts and identify unusual transactions, errors, and required adjustments.
- Prepare or review weekly reports as requested.
- Prepare financial reports in Xero, particularly management reports, and post month-end journals.
- Prepare bookkeeping files, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for accountants and year-end financial reporting.
- Work with junior and intermediate bookkeepers to resolve client bookkeeping matters.
- Serve as a key contact for bookkeeping clients, proactively following up on outstanding information and deadlines.
- Assist clients with bookkeeping systems, processes, and accounting software.
- Review bookkeeping work completed by junior and intermediate team members.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentoring to bookkeeping staff.
- Identify opportunities to improve internal bookkeeping processes and client workflows.
- Support the onboarding of new bookkeeping clients by reviewing existing systems and establishing appropriate processes and controls.
- Deliver client work accurately, efficiently, and within agreed deadlines.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and quality-control standards across client files.
