Job summary

EPAM Systems is seeking a Chief Backend Engineer to lead backend development for the Internal Developer Platform (IDP) built on Backstage. You will own backend architecture, design scalable microservices, and drive secure, efficient developer experiences across multinational teams.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with tools like Git, Kubernetes, and Argo Workflows, and ensure resilient services while expanding platform capabilities for enterprise customers worldwide.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on backend experience.
• 2+ years directing and managing development teams.
• Strong Node.js/TypeScript backend practices.
• Backstage backend plugin development and API construction.
• APIs and microservices for scalable platforms.
• Kubernetes/containerized infra familiarity.
• Proficient English (B2+).

Responsibilities

• Oversee design and delivery of Backstage backend plugins and services.
• Lead backend architecture for catalog, scaffolder, workflows, and APIs.
• Integrate Git, CI/CD, Kubernetes, and Argo Workflows.
• Plan developer workflows and automated pipelines.
• Develop RBAC and authentication/security controls.
• Mentor team and promote engineering standards.
