Job summary

Luxoft is seeking a senior Backstage engineer to own and evolve an enterprise Backstage platform for a customer. You will extend, deploy, and support the platform, designing custom plugins and integrations with the customer's toolchain while mentoring two engineers and shaping the roadmap.

Ideal candidates have hands-on production Backstage experience, strong TypeScript and React skills, and solid DevOps fundamentals including Docker, Kubernetes, Helm and cloud experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in relevant roles.
• Hands-on production experience with Backstage — building, deploying and supporting it.
• Strong TypeScript, React (frontend plugins) and Node.js/Express (backend plugins).
• Experience developing custom Backstage plugins and integrations.
• Solid DevOps foundation: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD, IaC (Terraform or equivalent) and at least one major cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Experience with authentication/authorization: OIDC/OAuth2, SSO, RBAC.
• Comfortable operating a platform under a support model with SLAs.
• Ability to mentor peers and document outcomes.
• Customer-facing communication in professional English.

Responsibilities

• Take technical ownership of the customer's Backstage instance: architecture, stability, performance and upgrade path.
• Handle escalated support issues and convert recurring incidents into permanent fixes.
• Design and build custom plugins (React/TypeScript frontend, Node.js backend) and integrations with the customer's toolchain.
• Model and maintain the Software Catalog and Scaffolder, ensure data quality.
• Build and maintain Software Templates (Scaffolder) and custom actions for onboarding.
• Configure authentication, authorization, and permissions, including SSO and RBAC.
• Own the Backstage upgrade process and migrations to new backend/frontend systems.
• Own deployment and operations: containerisation, Kubernetes/Helm, CI/CD pipelines, PostgreSQL, monitoring, backups.
• Mentor the two engineers: pairing, code reviews, and runbooks for team independence.
• Collaborate with customer to shape platform roadmap and translate goals into plugins/workflows.
