Job summary

IAN SMART ENERGY CORP is seeking a Senior Accounting professional to join our finance team in Quezon City, Metro Manila. This full-time role leads all financial accounting and reporting, ensuring accuracy, integrity and compliance while providing strategic insights to support decision-making at all levels of the organisation.

You will oversee the general ledger, month-end close, tax compliance, audits, and drive improvements in accounting controls and ERP processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
• CPA certification or equivalent is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory requirements for energy/utility sectors.
• Experience with month-end and year-end close in a complex environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee preparation and review of financial statements in line with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
• Manage the general ledger and accurate recording of all financial transactions.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and consolidation schedules.
• Supervise and develop accounting staff, imparting policies and best practices.
• Develop and maintain accounting policies for consistency and compliance across operations.
• Prepare and analyze financial reports for management and external stakeholders.

About the role

IAN SMART ENERGY CORP is seeking a Senior Accounting professional to join our finance team on a full-time basis in Quezon City, Metro Manila. This is a pivotal role within our organisation, responsible for leading and overseeing all financial accounting and reporting functions. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and compliance of our financial records whilst providing strategic financial insights to support business decision-making at all levels of the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory requirements
• Manage the general ledger, ensuring accurate recording of all financial transactions and proper categorisation of accounts
• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliation of accounts and preparation of consolidation schedules
• Supervise junior accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting policies, procedures and best practices
• Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance across all operations
• Prepare and analyse financial reports for internal management and external stakeholders, highlighting key variances and trends
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations and support the preparation of tax returns and documentation
• Liaise with external auditors and provide necessary documentation and explanations during audit processes
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement system enhancements to streamline accounting operations
• Maintain detailed records and documentation to support all financial transactions and reporting activities
• Prepared and reviewed VAT calculations and ensured compliance with tax requirements.
• Prepared and analyzed financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Performed bank reconciliations and investigated discrepancies to ensure accuracy of accounting records.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Professional accounting qualification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or similar recognised credential is highly desirable
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards and regulatory requirements applicable to the energy or utility sector
• Proficiency in accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Leadership capability with proven experience in training, mentoring and managing accounting teams
• Knowledge of internal controls, audit procedures and risk management practices
• Experience with month-end and year-end close cycles in a complex organisational environment is preferred
