Job Description
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of safety, health, environment, and quality across employees and facilities, ensuring full compliance with government‑mandated requirements. Additionally serves as the company’s Pollution Control Officer (PCO).
A strong safety officer combines technical knowledge (regulations, risk assessment, emergency response) with soft skills (communication, leadership, adaptability). This balance ensures not only compliance but also a proactive safety culture that protects employees and the organization.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge of Safety Regulations and Standards – Familiarity with OSHA, ISO 45001, NEBOSH, and local government requirements
- Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification – Ability to spot potential hazards, assess severity, and implement preventive measures
- Incident Investigation – Skilled in analyzing accidents, documenting findings, and recommending corrective actions
- Emergency Response Planning – Competence in fire safety, evacuation procedures, and disaster preparedness
- Environmental & PCO Functions – Understanding of pollution control, waste management, and environmental compliance.
- Safety Audits & Inspections – Conducting regular workplace inspections and ensuring corrective actions are implemented
- Training & Education – Delivering safety orientations, toolbox talks, and specialized training sessions
- Documentation & Reporting – Maintaining accurate records of safety programs, inspections, and compliance reports
- Hazardous Materials Handling – Knowledge of HAZWOPER protocols and safe chemical management
- Ergonomics & Workplace Design – Ensuring safe workstation setups to reduce strain and injury
