If you want to do career-defining work, you’ve come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact.
With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we’re shaping the future of fintech – and we’re just getting started.

Build safer growth from the ground up

Checkout.com is building a new Operations Hub in Mexico City, and this is a chance to join the founding Risk Monitoring team as the office and function continue to grow.

As a Risk Monitoring Analyst, you will help protect Checkout.com and its merchants by reviewing risk alerts, investigating unusual transaction activity, and making clear, evidence-based recommendations. This role focuses specifically on ISV sellers, where small businesses and individual sellers can create fast-moving credit, fraud, and scheme risks.

This is more than a case-handling role. You will help shape the standards, habits, processes, and culture of a new team and office. It is a great opportunity for someone who is serious about building expertise, takes pride in high-quality work, and wants to help build something lasting.

What you will do
Execute the daily monitoring process
  • Review assigned alerts in the ISV Daily Risk Report and case management tools.

  • Manage a consistent workload of investigations and complete cases within agreed service levels.

  • Follow approved procedures, controls, and escalation routes accurately.

  • Keep case statuses, decisions, evidence, and actions complete and up to date.

Investigate risk signals
  • Analyse transaction patterns, volumes, payouts, refunds, chargebacks, fraud activity, ACH returns, declines, and credit exposure.

  • Review the seller’s business model, website, transaction activity, balances, reserves, previous alerts, and relevant history holistically.

  • Determine whether an alert is a false positive, a valid alert requiring no immediate action, or a genuine risk requiring mitigation.

  • Identify potential merchant fraud, bust-out behaviour, card testing, credit deterioration, scheme risk, or system-related issues.

Make and document decisions
  • Recommend proportionate risk controls based on the investigation and the applicable approval matrix.

  • Escalate ambiguous, high-risk, or out-of-policy cases to the Team Lead, Manager, or relevant specialist team.

  • Record concise, well-reasoned findings that clearly explain what was reviewed, what was identified, and why the decision was taken.

  • Support appropriate actions such as controls, reserves, seller or platform outreach, and further information requests.

  • Ensure completed cases are correctly closed and that required stakeholders are informed.

Communicate and collaborate
  • Share clear case summaries and recommendations with Risk, Financial Crime, Onboarding, Disputes, Account Management, and ISV Platform teams.

  • Contact ISV Platforms or sellers when additional information is needed, using approved templates and procedures.

  • Work effectively with colleagues in Mexico and Mauritius to support consistent decisions and smooth handovers.

  • Ask for support early when a case is unclear rather than allowing risk, delays, or rework to build up.

Help build the team
  • Contribute to the improvement of SOPs, templates, workflows, and team knowledge.

  • Identify recurring issues, process gaps, and practical improvements to share with the Team Lead or Manager.

  • Support a culture of ownership, accuracy, accountability, and respectful challenge.

  • Help establish the operating standards and team habits expected from a founding Mexico City team.

How the BAU process works

The core Risk Monitoring process runs on a daily cycle using the previous day’s activity. The monitoring model identifies unusual or financially material changes across ISV sellers and routes actionable alerts into the ISV risk monitoring application.

As part of the BAU workflow, you will:

  1. Pick up and prioritise assigned open alerts.

  2. Review the trigger and the seller’s wider risk profile, not just the individual metric that created the alert.

  3. Use the available tools to review transaction trends, business activity, balances, reserves, prior alerts, and supporting information.

  4. Decide whether the alert is a false positive, requires no further action, or requires mitigation.

  5. Apply or recommend the appropriate control within the approval framework.

  6. Record the reasoning, evidence, status, and action clearly in the case management system.

  7. Contact the relevant ISV Platform or seller when required.

  8. Escalate complex or high‑risk cases and close the case once all required actions are complete.

The process will evolve as the Mexico team grows. Analysts are expected to follow the current SOP carefully while also spotting opportunities to make the process clearer, safer, and more efficient.

What we are looking for
Experience and technical capability
  • At least 1 year of hands‑on experience in risk monitoring, fraud operations, transaction monitoring, AML/KYC, credit risk, disputes, payments operations, or a similar analytical environment.

  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate this experience with specific examples of investigations, data analysis, risk decisions, case handling, or operational problem‑solving. We are looking for evidence, not only a job title.

  • Ability to analyse data and identify meaningful changes, anomalies, patterns, and trends.

  • Ability to investigate a case from multiple angles and connect transaction behaviour with the seller’s business model.

  • Experience using case management tools, spreadsheets, dashboards, or other systems to review information and document decisions.

  • Strong written and verbal communication in English and Spanish.

  • Knowledge of payments, fintech, e‑commerce, fraud, merchant risk, or financial crime is an advantage.

Professional maturity and soft skills
  • Mature and serious in your approach to work, decisions, confidentiality, and accountability.

  • Highly organised, able to manage a queue, follow a process, and keep accurate records without constant supervision.

  • Calm and thoughtful when dealing with ambiguous information, competing priorities, or time‑sensitive risk.

  • Curious enough to ask why, challenge assumptions, and keep investigating until the picture is clear.

  • Clear and respectful communicator who can explain a decision to different audiences.

  • Comfortable receiving feedback, changing direction, and learning from more experienced colleagues.

  • Reliable team player who communicates early, supports colleagues, and contributes to smooth handovers.

  • Practical and improvement‑mindful, with the confidence to suggest better ways of working.

Why join the Mexico City founding team?
  • Join Checkout.com’s growing Mexico City Operations Hub as part of its founding Risk Monitoring team, helping shape the function as it develops from the ground up.

  • Develop practical expertise across merchant fraud, credit risk, transaction monitoring, chargebacks, scheme risk, and ISV seller risk.

  • Work with experienced colleagues across Mexico, Mauritius, and the wider global Operations organisation.

  • Help define the processes, knowledge base, and team culture that future colleagues will build on.

  • Make a direct contribution to how Checkout.com grows safely in new markets.

  • Receive structured training, coaching, and hands‑on exposure to real risk decisions.
