About the role
Design Science is seeking a RIB CostX Quantity Surveyor / Construction Estimator to join our team in a full-time work from home capacity based in the Philippines or South East Asia . This role is integral to our construction arm of our Architectural, Building Design and Construction business, where you will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for our internally Revit designed construction projects using RIB CostX software. We control the design, and modelling and you will only be working with our own internally designed projects - we build what we design. As the right-hand construction estimator to the director, you will play a vital role in continually improving, refining and ensuring no compromise accuracy within our Revit - CostX environment and workflow. Your expertise in CostX and estimating will directly influence and guide how we do things.
What you'll be doing
Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for construction projects in the Australian Residential sector.
Utilise RIB CostX software proficiently to create, analyse and manage quantity take-offs, construction cost estimates, and material orders.
Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications and project documentation to identify scope and requirements as well as advise how our internal Architects can model and generate plans for optimal integration into the CostX path.
Conduct material and labour research to ensure estimates reflect current market prices and rates
Collaborate with project managers, architects and clients to clarify project requirements and scope
Analyse project risks and contingencies to provide realistic and competitive estimates
Maintain and update estimating databases, templates and historical cost data
Prepare estimate summaries and reports for presentation to management and clients
Support timely and accurate cost information
Monitor estimate accuracy against actual costs and identify areas for improvement
What we're looking for
Proven experience as a Construction Estimator and Quantity Surveyor with demonstrated expertise in quantity surveying and cost estimation specifically using CostX for minimum 6 years.
Advanced proficiency with RIB CostX software, this is mandatory, we are not here to train you, you are to train us.
Strong understanding of construction methodologies, material specifications and labour practices
Ability to interpret and analyse complex architectural and engineering drawings
Excellent mathematical and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
Preferably knowledge of Australian construction standards, regulations and market conditions.
Professional certification such as Quantity Surveyor (QS) or Construction Estimator credentials (preferred)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
Strong communication and presentation skills to convey technical information effectively
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
It is critical to understand - We are NOT m2 takeoff estimators, we break everything down to individual material orders, this is real estimating and quantity breakdowns, no pretenders. We order and build what we design.
What we offer
Design Science is committed to providing a supportive and professional work environment where your expertise is valued. We offer competitive remuneration packages commensurate with experience and qualifications. We design what we build, we are a Team including multiple internal Architects, Designers and Construction Supervisors with a Licensed Builder and Building Designer Director. We foster a collaborative culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement. We are committed to maintaining a work-life balance that allows our employees to thrive both professionally and personally. You will be the 'right hand' with a direct line to the Director of the company. This is your chance to show off your CostX knowledge and expertise and take a real hands-on role in shaping not just the CostX interface, but how we use Revit to prepare our designs and documentation to enable maximum efficiency and integration. Again - we design what we build, we don't build other designs, only our own. No more pdf's, jobs from different Architects, Designers and Builders, we are it, start to finish.
