Job summary

Madonna and Child Medical Center is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to deliver patient care within an assigned unit, focusing on restoring pulmonary function and supporting life through prescribed respiratory therapy.

You will perform pulmonary function tests, administer inhalants and oxygen therapy, manage ventilators for adults, pediatrics, and neonates, and monitor patient responses to therapy.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy.
• PRC licensed holder.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pulmonary function tests; assess results and determine therapy plans.
• Administer inhalants, operate ventilators and breathing apparatus.
• Administer oxygen and aerosol therapy; maintain airways.
• Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans.
• Consult with physicians, nurses and other health workers.
• Chart in patient records and department documentation.
• Operate and maintain acute care ventilators for different age groups.
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot equipment.

About the role

A Respiratory Therapist is responsible in delivering care to a patient within an assigned area. The role involves restoring patient's pulmonary function; alleviating pain; and supporting life by planning and administering medically prescribed respiratory therapy.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pulmonary function tests; assess and interpret evaluations and test results; determine respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians and by prescription
• Administer inhalants, operate mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems and aerosol generators
• Administer oxygen therapy and aerosol therapy, airway maintenance and tracheal suctioning
• Perform bronchopulmonary drainage; assist with breathing exercises; monitor physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs arterial blood gases and blood chemistry changes
• Observe, note and evaluate patient's progress; recommend adjustments and modifications to respiratory treatment plan
• Consult with physicians, nurses, social workers and other health care workers; contribute to patient care conferences
• Design home exercise programs; instruct patients, families and caregivers in home exercise programs; recommend and/or provide assistive equipment
• Chart in patient and department records
• Operate and maintain acute care ventilators for both short- and long-term mechanical ventilation of adults, pediatrics and neonates
• Complete preventive maintenance requirements on equipment following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshoot malfunctions
