Job summary

Jubilant Ingrevia Limited is seeking a Research Associate - Process R&D to develop and optimize scalable chemical processes. You will design experiments, troubleshoot, and drive technology transfer from lab to pilot and manufacturing.

The role requires strong expertise in synthetic and process chemistry, hands-on lab work, and cross-functional collaboration to enable safe, cost-effective manufacturing excellence.

Qualifications

  • 2–6 years of relevant Process R&D, Organic Synthesis, or related experience.
  • Experience in Specialty Chemicals, Fine Chemicals, Agrochemicals, or APIs preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of synthetic and process chemistry with route scouting skills.
  • Ability to interpret analytical data (HPLC/GC/LC‑MS/NMR/KF) for process decisions.
  • Willingness to work across laboratory, pilot, and manufacturing scales.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize chemical processes from literature to scalable routes.
  • Improve yields, selectivity, and impurity profiles for robust processes.
  • Transfer developed processes from lab to pilot and manufacturing.
  • Provide technical support for plant trials and validation batches.
  • Ensure safety, compliance, and data integrity in development work.
  • Collaborate with QA, EHS, Production, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

Speciality Chemicals:

The Specialty Chemical business of Jubilant Ingrevia manufactures Pyridine, Picolines and its forward integration derivatives, which finds application in agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, dyes, solvents, metal finishes, fine chemicals, semiconductors etc.

Job Summary

The Research Associate - Process R&D will be responsible for the development, optimization, scale-up, and technology transfer of safe, robust, cost-effective, and commercially viable chemical processes. The role requires strong expertise in synthetic and process chemistry, hands‑on laboratory experimentation, troubleshooting, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration to support successful commercialization and manufacturing excellence.

Key Responsibilities
1. New Product & Process Development
  • Conduct literature reviews, patent searches, and route scouting for new products and process opportunities.
  • Design and independently execute laboratory experiments for the development of scalable and economical chemical processes.
  • Optimize reaction conditions, yields, selectivity, impurity profiles, work‑up procedures, and purification methods.
  • Generate samples for internal and customer evaluation and establish critical process parameters for scale‑up.
2. Process Optimization & Cost Improvement
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Enhance yields, productivity, throughput, and cycle times.
  • Reduce raw material, solvent, utility consumption, waste generation, and effluent load.
  • Evaluate alternative raw materials, catalysts, reagents, and process intensification opportunities.
  • Investigate process deviations, yield losses, and impurity generation through structured root cause analysis.
  • Resolve challenges related to reactions, isolation, crystallization, filtration, drying, and distillation.
  • Develop impurity control strategies and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing operations and commercialization activities.
  • Support laboratory‑to‑pilot and pilot‑to‑commercial scale-up activities.
  • Assess scale-up risks related to heat transfer, mass transfer, mixing, exothermic reactions, filtration, distillation, and drying operations.
  • Prepare comprehensive technology transfer packages and process documentation.
  • Support plant trials, validation batches, and commercial manufacturing campaigns.
5. Process Safety & EHS Compliance
  • Identify process safety hazards associated with chemical reactions and manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure safe handling of hazardous, toxic, corrosive, flammable, and reactive chemicals.
  • Collaborate with EHS teams to conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
  • Develop environmentally sustainable and inherently safer processes.
6. Data Analysis, Documentation & Compliance
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, experimental records, and electronic data systems.
  • Analyze process and analytical data to derive meaningful conclusions and recommendations.
  • Prepare development reports, investigation reports, technology transfer documents, and scale‑up reports.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs while ensuring data integrity, traceability, and compliance requirements.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Analytical/QC, Production, Engineering, Quality Assurance, EHS, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Commercial teams.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Support alignment of development activities with manufacturing and business objectives.
  • Explore emerging technologies and innovative synthetic approaches.
  • Drive initiatives that improve productivity, quality, safety, sustainability, and competitiveness.
  • Capture project learnings and contribute to organizational knowledge management.
  • Stay current with developments in synthetic chemistry, process chemistry, catalysis, and scale-up technologies.

Educational Qualifications

Preferred

Candidates with higher qualifications and relevant expertise in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Process Chemistry may also be considered.

Experience
  • 2-6 years of relevant experience in Process R&D, Organic Synthesis, Process Development, Scale-Up, Technology Transfer, or Chemical Manufacturing Support.
  • Experience in Specialty Chemicals, Fine Chemicals, Agrochemicals, Pharmaceutical Intermediates, APIs, or related industries will be preferred.
  • Proven experience in reaction optimization, process troubleshooting, and technology transfer is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Process Chemistry.
  • Route scouting and process development expertise.
  • Literature and patent search capabilities.
  • Reaction optimization and impurity management.
  • Understanding of crystallization, extraction, filtration, distillation, and drying operations.
  • Knowledge of scale-up principles and technology transfer.
  • Familiarity with process safety studies and EHS requirements.
  • Ability to interpret analytical data including: HPLC, GC, LC-MS, NMR, KF & other analytical techniques
