Job summary

Twilio is seeking a Software Engineer (L2) for Voice Trust to ensure reliable voice communications for customers. You will participate in all SDLC phases, own and operate services in a distributed production environment, and apply Agile practices to deliver value.

The role emphasizes designing high-throughput real-time services, collaborating with product managers and engineers, and contributing to a scalable voice connectivity trust team. Remote-first with occasional in-person meetings.

Qualifications

• 2-3+ years in large-scale distributed JVM apps.
• RESTful services, API design, and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS).
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on with cloud infrastructures such as AWS, GCP, OpenStack or Azure.
• Experience with on-call rotations, incident response, monitoring/alerting tools (Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana).
• Excellent written communication skills for technical docs (with or without AI).
• Proven ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Strong Java fundamentals with ability to architect, review, and debug code (including AI-generated).
• Experience using AI coding assistants (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor).
• Bachelor's degree in CS or related engineering field.
• CS fundamentals incl. data structures, algorithms, OS, distributed systems.
• Team player, motivated and able to drive initiatives with metrics.
• Experience scaling data tiers with SQL/NoSQL and caching technologies.
• Experience scaling production backends—horizontally scalable, resilient systems.
• Knowledge of SIP and Stir/Shaken protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement real-time services with high throughput and low latency.
• Work with stakeholders to understand customer needs and deliver robust scalable solutions.
• Document designs and collaborate with leads, architects and cross-functional teams.
• Scale a distributed platform with global points of presence for high availability and performance.
• Solve customer problems for the Voice channel with innovative approaches.
