Job summary

Go Lean Health is seeking a Back-Office Insurance & Prior Authorization Virtual Medical Assistant to support a U.S. nonprofit behavioral health organization.

The role focuses on administrative and insurance tasks to move patients through enrollment and prepare them for care. You will verify benefits, obtain authorizations, document eligibility, and manage enrollment steps while maintaining accurate records and coordinating with front-desk staff.

Qualifications

• Healthcare experience with insurance verification and prior authorizations.
• Experience with US commercial insurance plans and Medicaid.
• Experience contacting insurance companies and using payer portals.
• Strong understanding of eligibility and authorization workflows.
• Experience using an EHR or practice-management system.
• Strong administrative documentation and data-entry skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple cases.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient eligibility and benefits with commercial plans and Medicaid.
• Review payer information and document results in clinic systems.
• Initiate and process prior authorization requests per payer/clinic requirements.
• Follow up on pending authorizations and communicate with insurers.
• Assess financial eligibility for nonprofit programs and follow up with patients.
• Support patient intake by setting up profiles and collecting forms.
• Prepare patient charts and ensure complete administrative documentation.
• Track cases from enrollment to scheduling and resolution.
• Assist with provider credentialing and payer enrollment as needed.
• Update charts with demographics, authorization details, and eligibility information.
• Develop and refine back-office SOPs to improve turnaround times.
