Job summary

Oyster is seeking a payroll professional based in Germany to own the German payroll stream, closely follow DATEV processes, and ensure accurate, compliant payroll runs. You’ll work within our in-house payroll team, handling master data, validations, and statutory filings while building expertise in German labour and tax law.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years native German payroll experience or in-house payroll processing for Germany.
• Hands-on DATEV processing experience and knowledge of German wage tax and social insurance.
• Completed Kaufmännische Ausbildung and/or Lohnbuchhalter qualification.
• Fluent German (C1/C2) for interaction with authorities and fluent English for global team collaboration.
• Ability to follow SOPs, handle tickets, and maintain data accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll accurately for the Germany payroll stream, on time and compliant.
• Manage payroll master data: hires, terminations, salary changes, benefits, absences, garnishments.
• Run pre- and post-payroll validations and flag issues before escalation.
• Handle statutory filings: Lohnsteueranmeldung, SV-Meldungen, Jahresmeldung, ELStAM data.
• Follow system procedures and test legislative updates before go-live.
• Build knowledge of Lohnsteuerrecht, Sozialversicherungsrecht, Arbeitsrecht, Tarifvertrag.
• Check GL mappings and payroll journals for data integrity.
• Handle client payroll tickets with accuracy and customer-first mindset.
• Prepare statutory and ad-hoc reports for regulatory compliance.
• Support audits with documentation; share knowledge within the team.
