Job summary

REMOTE STAFF, INC. is seeking a part-time Accounts & Tax Assistant to support Australian taxation compliance, BAS preparation, and financial reporting for multiple client accounts. The role emphasizes accuracy, privacy, and independent work within fixed Australian-time shifts.

Ideal candidates have strong skills in Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks Online, and MS Excel, with a proven track record in tax and accounting workflows for small businesses.

Qualifications

• Solid background in Australian taxation compliance, individual tax returns, and BAS preparation.
• Proven experience preparing accounting workpapers, year-end adjustments, depreciation schedules, and journal entries.
• Practical understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting workflows.
• Ability to process messy, unorganized client data into structured working papers efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Gather, extract, and consolidate unstructured financial information into structured working spreadsheets.
• Prepare Australian tax returns and supporting workpapers for Principal review.
• Process BAS for small business clients using cloud software and source documents.
• Conduct bank reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, and invoicing across client accounts.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly management reports with depreciation, interest, and journal entries.
• Maintain organized electronic client files with checklists, source documents, and reports.
• Follow up with clients via email for missing documents and draft client communications.
• Reconcile ledgers and assist in historical multi-year financial statements for sole traders and small businesses.
• Assist with ASIC annual reviews and client record updates when required.
• Ensure data privacy and secure remote network practices.
