Job summary

BILREY CONSTRUCTION is seeking a Cost Estimator to oversee the cost estimating outputs of Quantity Surveyors, prepare bid and budget proposals, and develop project budgetary estimates based on plans and specifications. About the role

Oversee and review the outputs of Quantity Surveyors to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements. Prepare bid/cost proposal documents for submission to clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements. Develop Project Budgetary Estimates based on detailed examination of plans and specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough quantity take-offs and unit price analyses to generate precise project cost estimates
• Monitor changes in plans and specifications to accurately record cost variations throughout the project lifecycle
• Perform Cost Effect Analysis and compute Variation/Change Orders to determine contract costs
• Keep updated material canvass, regional labor rates and equipment rates
• Prepare bill of quantities, bill of materials and other related reports for permit requirements
• Evaluate specialty contractor/subcontractor cost proposals and reconcile any discrepancies in quantities and costs
• Review site purchase orders to ensure alignment with specifications, quantities, and construction material costs
• Collaborate with the design team to identify potential value engineering opportunities and optimize project scope
• Coach and develop a high performing cost estimating team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
• Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports
