About the role
The Senior Buyer is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Purchasing team while also handling key sourcing, supplier management, negotiation, and purchasing requirements of the Company. The role provides guidance and support to Buyers and other assigned team members, making sure that purchasing requirements are handled on time, properly documented, and in accordance with Company policies and procedures. As a senior member of the team, the Senior Buyer is expected to lead by example, particularly in dealing with suppliers and making purchasing decisions.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day purchasing activities of the team and ensure that requirements are addressed based on business priorities
- Handle critical, high-value, or more complex purchasing requirements when needed
- Review quotations, sourcing options, and supplier recommendations considering cost, quality, delivery, service, and overall business requirements
- Lead and support negotiations on pricing, payment terms, lead times, and other commercial conditions
- Ensure purchase orders and related transactions are processed accurately and on time
- Identify alternative sources and work with the team to minimize supply risks and potential disruptions
- Provide day-to-day direction and support to Buyers and other assigned Purchasing Personnel
- Assign and prioritize work based on urgency, workload, and operational requirements
- Coach team members and share knowledge and good practices in sourcing, negotiation, supplier management, and problem-solving
- Build and maintain professional and productive working relationships with suppliers
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related four-year course
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in Purchasing, Procurement, Sourcing, or Supply Chain, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in leading or supervising a team is preferred
- Strong negotiation, supplier management, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Good understanding of purchasing processes and internal controls
- Able to provide direction, coaching, and constructive feedback to team members
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and applicable ERP or purchasing systems
- Able to handle confidential and commercially sensitive information responsibly
