Job description

POSITION: Project Manager – FORTIFIED & Resilience Specialist (Remote)
POSITION SUMMARY

As a Project Manager within the client's Resilience Group, you will support and manage FORTIFIED Commercial and Multifamily projects, providing technical review, documentation, and quality assurance throughout the evaluation and designation process. This role is primarily focused on remote support of FORTIFIED projects, including plan review, product approval review, wind and building envelope evaluations, compliance documentation, and coordination with the client's evaluators, project teams, and clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background and experience interpreting construction documents, building systems, and hazard-related design requirements. This position does not require field work or site visits. The client will provide training, mentorship, and hands-on project experience in the FORTIFIED Evaluator Program to support the successful candidate's development and participation in FORTIFIED Commercial and Multifamily projects.

In addition to supporting FORTIFIED projects, you will contribute to Property Resilience Assessments (PRA) compliant with ASTM E3429 and broader natural hazard and climate risk evaluations.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in flood risk assessment, including FEMA flood maps, Flood Insurance Studies, floodplain analysis, stormwater and drainage considerations, and related resilience tools commonly used in the United States.

Candidates with a seismic engineering background and experience evaluating earthquake-related building vulnerabilities will also be considered.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage and support FORTIFIED Commercial and Multifamily projects, overseeing technical reviews, documentation, compliance activities, and coordination with project teams throughout the evaluation and designation process.
  • Review architectural, structural, and roofing drawings for compliance with FORTIFIED requirements, including wind loads, continuous load paths, building envelope systems, and roof assembly requirements.
  • Evaluate product submittals, including windows, doors, roofing systems, wall assemblies, flashing details, and other building components for compliance with FORTIFIED standards and applicable approvals.
  • Prepare, organize, and submit supporting documentation, including drawings, calculations, photographs, compliance forms, and technical reports required for FORTIFIED designations and resilience assessments.
  • Review field documentation and site photographs collected by the client's staff, evaluators, and project teams to support technical reviews and compliance determinations.
  • Support Property Resilience Assessments (PRA) in accordance with ASTM E3429, including hazard research, vulnerability assessments, risk identification, and resilience recommendations.
  • Conduct desktop analyses of natural hazards and climate-related risks affecting commercial and multifamily properties using publicly available and proprietary data sources
  • Support flood risk evaluations through interpretation of FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), Flood Insurance Studies (FIS), floodplain information, site drainage conditions, stormwater considerations, and related flood-risk tools commonly used in the United States.
  • Alternatively, support seismic risk evaluations through review of seismic hazards, structural vulnerabilities, building characteristics, and earthquake-related risk factors affecting property performance.
  • Research and interpret climate, flood, seismic, and other natural hazard datasets to support resilience studies and client deliverables.
  • Assist in identifying vulnerabilities, developing mitigation and adaptation recommendations, and supporting conceptual resilience strategies for existing properties.
  • Prepare clear, concise technical reports and communicate findings, recommendations, and conclusions to clients, project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control reviews of FORTIFIED and resilience deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and compliance with the client's standards.
  • Stay current with evolving standards and best practices related to FORTIFIED, resilience, climate risk, hazard mitigation, flood risk assessment, and seismic risk evaluation.
  • Deliver outstanding client service through timely communication, responsiveness, proactive problem solving, and effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality, organization, and attention to detail.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • +3 years of experience in resilience consulting, risk engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, building enclosure consulting, flood risk assessment, seismic risk assessment, or related disciplines.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting architectural, structural, and construction drawings, technical specifications, and building system documentation.
  • Experience reviewing wind load calculations, building envelope systems, roofing systems, and construction details for commercial and multifamily properties.
  • Familiarity with FORTIFIED Commercial and Multifamily standards and/or ASTM E3429 Standard Guide for Property Resilience Assessments is a plus.
  • Knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and product approvals, including FM Approvals, Florida Product Approval, Miami-Dade NOA, TDI, UL, or similar programmes.
  • Understanding of low-slope and steep-slope roofing systems, roof decks, roof-mounted equipment, and building enclosure performance.
  • Strong ability to interpret natural hazard and climate risk data from public and proprietary sources, including FEMA resources and related resilience datasets.
  • Preferred experience with flood risk assessment, including FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), Flood Insurance Studies (FIS), floodplain analysis, flood mitigation concepts, site drainage considerations, and stormwater management principles.
  • Alternatively, experience evaluating seismic hazards, building vulnerabilities, structural systems, and earthquake-related risks affecting building performance.
  • Familiarity with climate risk, resilience, hazard mitigation, adaptation planning, and loss-reduction strategies for existing buildings.
  • Experience conducting technical research and synthesizing complex engineering, hazard, and climate data into practical recommendations.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and technical subject matter experts.
