Job description

Sangrur, Rupnagar, Punjab full-time senior level Competitive Closes 30 Sept

Bahaar Foundation works to bring basic health care within reach of rural families in Punjab. It is building a Community Health Entrepreneur (CHE) programme that aims to place one trained woman in each of 10,000 to 12,000 villages over the next two years. These women become the first point of health access in their village, offering preventive, promotive and basic curative services, and they earn a livelihood while doing it. The work is carried out alongside government health and rural livelihood systems and with private partners. This role sits within Bahaar Foundation's district field operations team, which activates, trains and supports the CHEs on the ground.

Role

The Project Coordinator is the district-level operational lead for the CHE programme. You will oversee roughly 500 to 600 Community Health Entrepreneurs in your assigned districts, from identifying and onboarding the right women, through training and mentoring, to keeping them active and delivering services in their villages. Much of the work happens in the field, in regular contact with communities, block and district officials, self-help groups and partner organisations. You report to the Project Director.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with SRLM teams, Panchayats, SHGs and local stakeholders to identify women candidates with entrepreneurial potential and community acceptance.
  • Lead block-level mobilisation, orientation sessions and screening so that CHE selection is sound.
  • Manage timely onboarding, documentation and operational readiness of newly selected CHEs, and help them become field-active within the set timelines.
  • Explain programme expectations, reporting systems and community engagement processes to CHEs from their first day.
  • Ensure every selected CHE completes the 7-day foundational training and the refresher training that follows.
  • Work with Training Managers, district partners and resource persons to run training well, and track attendance, participation, learning outcomes and feedback.
  • Serve as the main support person for CHEs in the district, conducting regular field visits and supportive supervision.
  • Support the smooth use of digital reporting and data collection tools, and troubleshoot problems CHEs face in mobilisation, service delivery, supplies, confidence or reporting.
  • Identify inactive or low-performing CHEs and run structured reactivation support.
  • Build working relationships with district and block health officials, ICDS supervisors, SHG leaders and Panchayats, and represent Bahaar Foundation at review meetings.
  • Maintain accurate district databases and track key indicators such as onboarding, training completion, service delivery, household outreach and retention.
  • Submit progress reports, field visit notes and issue escalations to the Project Director and PMU, and contribute field insights and data validation to monitoring, evaluation and learning.
Requirements
  • Graduate degree in Social Work, Public Health, Rural Development, or a related field, postgraduate degree a plus
  • 5 or more years of experience in community development, public health, women's empowerment, or livelihood programmes
  • At least 3 years in field coordination roles across multiple blocks or districts

  • Self motivated, resourceful, and able to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with grassroots women and officials
  • Competitive salary based on experience and sector benchmarks.
  • Travel and fieldwork expenses covered as per policy.
  • A district leadership role with direct ownership of 500 to 600 Community Health Entrepreneurs.
  • The chance to shape one of Punjab's largest women-led grassroots health entrepreneurship initiatives.
