Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a full-stack Software Engineer to build internal tools and data pipelines powering lawful data access workflows and Legal Operations.

You will design backend systems, data interfaces, and audit trails to ensure accurate, auditable retrieval with strong privacy controls. This hybrid role is based in San Francisco, with London and Dublin under consideration, and relocation assistance offered.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend systems and workflow tooling for lawful data access requests.
• Develop reliable data pipelines and interfaces across products and data stores.
• Implement least-privilege access, audit trails, and data minimization.
• Collaborate with Legal Operations to translate requirements into technical designs.
• Identify automation opportunities while preserving human review and accountability.
• Own production systems with testing, observability, and incident response.
• Help define architecture and roadmap for privacy and legal-infrastructure foundations.
