Job summary

Meralco PowerGen (MGEN) is seeking a Power and Market Systems Specialist to develop, run, and maintain power system models used for market simulations and price forecasting. You will work with cross‑functional teams to ensure outputs meet business needs and regulatory expectations.

Responsibilities include building models with PLEXOS/Aurora/PSSE, cleaning large data sets, automating workflows, and documenting results for transparency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in power systems analysis, energy modeling, or related roles.
• Experience with modeling tools (PLEXOS, Aurora, PSSE) preferred.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or SQL for data handling and automation.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Good communication skills with ability to translate technical results into business insights.
• Eagerness to learn and contribute in a data-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain market simulation models using platforms such as PLEXOS, PSSE, or similar tools.
• Support scenario analysis for energy price forecasting, dispatch optimization, and system reliability studies.
• Process and clean large datasets from system operators, market reports, and internal databases.
• Assist in the automation of modeling workflows using R, Python, SQL, or other relevant tools.
• Interpret and document simulation results, highlighting key insights for commercial and regulatory teams.
• Stay informed on market rules, power system developments, and regulatory changes that may impact modeling assumptions or results.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including trading, strategy, and regulatory affairs, to address business questions through modeling and analysis.
• Ensure model input data accuracy and maintain proper documentation for transparency and reproducibility. Model back-testing and version control.
• Conduct research on emerging technologies such as battery storage, demand response, and distributed energy resources (DERs) and assess their market impacts.
