Euraxess is seeking highly skilled postdoctoral researchers to join their Computational Biology Group at CIC bioGUNE in Bizkaia, Spain. Candidates will focus on developing computational approaches for neuronal cell conversion, addressing complex biomedical challenges.
The role requires a Ph.D. in relevant fields, strong programming skills, and a solid publication record. The successful candidate will work in an international context with leading experimental labs in stem cell research and regenerative medicine.
The Computational Biology Group at CIC bioGUNE seeks highly skilled and motivated postdoctoral researchers to work on an exciting project that aims at the development of computational approaches for designing neuronal cell conversion protocols.
The selected candidate will develop a computational platform to identify hierarchical combinations of cell fate conversion factors, which will in turn be used to engineer highly specialized neuronal subtypes for cell transplantation therapies in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, and epilepsy.
To achieve this goal, the candidate will combine a gene network-based approach with a machine learning model (foundational model) to propose protocols for the sequential induction of transcription factors to generate desired cell subtypes. The selected candidate will be part of a Canadian federal grant project (NFRF) with international collaborators who will conduct experimental validation of the computational predictions to translate neuronal reprogramming into clinical practice.
The Computational Biology Group aims at establishing a solid infrastructure to develop theoretical frameworks for computational modeling of biomedical problems, especially in the areas of stem cell research, aging and disease modeling. The group closely collaborates with leading national and international experimental labs with a particular interest in stem cell research and regenerative medicine.
The deadline for submission of applications is August 15th, 2026.
