Job summary

ING Hubs Philippines is seeking a Performance Test Engineer to join our Shared Technology organization. You will design and execute performance strategies to ensure ING's enterprise tech remains fast, stable, and scalable under pressure.

You will work with engineers, architects, product partners, and platform teams to advance performance engineering across critical banking services. You will build scalable test frameworks with Gatling and Java, analyze system behavior, and drive improvements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, engineering or a related field.
• Proven experience in performance testing and engineering roles.
• Strong ability to design and run Gatling/Java-based tests for enterprise apps.
• Experience with CI/CD integration and observability tooling.

Working closely with engineers, architects, product partners, and platform teams, you'll contribute to performance engineering practices that support critical banking services across the organization.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and execute performance, load, stress, and endurance tests for enterprise applications and platforms.
• Build and maintain scalable performance test frameworks using Gatling and Java.
• Analyze application behavior, identify bottlenecks, and provide recommendations to improve performance and reliability.
• Collaborate closely with development, QA, infrastructure, and platform engineering teams throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
• Support performance engineering activities across large-scale distributed systems and cloud-based environments.
• Define and monitor performance benchmarks, KPIs, and service-level objectives.
• Contribute to performance testing best practices, standards, and automation strategies across the organization.
• Produce performance reports and present findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Performance Test Engineer, Performance Engineer, or similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience with Gatling for performance and load testing.
• Strong proficiency in Java and/or JavaScript for scripting and test automation.
• Experience designing and executing load, stress, scalability, and endurance tests.
• Experience testing distributed systems and enterprise applications.
• Strong understanding of performance frameworks, workload modeling, and non-functional requirements (NFRs).
• Ability to analyze performance metrics, logs, and traces to identify bottlenecks and recommend optimizations.
• Knowledge of network protocols and their impact on performance, including HTTP, WebSockets, FTP, messaging protocols, and Kafka.
• Experience working with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or similar platforms.
• Experience integrating performance testing into CI/CD pipelines, preferably using Azure DevOps.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to Have

• Experience with additional performance testing tools such as JMeter and k6.
• Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized environments.
• Experience working with cloud platforms and cloud-native architectures.
• Knowledge of messaging systems and event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with payment and banking message formats such as pain, camt, and pacs.
• Strong understanding of JVM tuning, latency profiling, and application performance optimization.
• Experience testing high-volume, mission-critical systems in the banking, financial services, or payments domain.
• Experience defining and influencing performance standards, SLAs, and scalability strategies across engineering teams.
