Qualifications

Job Summary

We are looking for a compassionate, responsible, and attentive Patient Care Technician (PCT) to assist in providing safe and quality care to hemodialysis patients. The PCT works closely with the Hemodialysis Nurses in patient preparation, monitoring, treatment assistance, infection control, and post-dialysis care.

The role also involves maintaining accurate patient documentation, assisting with patient flow and crowd control, and supporting the clinical team in maintaining a safe and organized dialysis unit.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in receiving and preparing patients for hemodialysis treatment.
• Perform patient triage and obtain and record pre-, intra-, and post-dialysis vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and record patients' pre- and post-treatment measurement.
• Assist patients with proper hand hygiene and preparation before entering the treatment area.
• Assist Hemodialysis Nurses in assessing patients and report any abnormal findings promptly.
• Prepare necessary supplies and access-related materials for dialysis treatment.
• Assist Hemodialysis Nurses during patient hooking and termination procedures in accordance with established protocols and under appropriate supervision.
• Monitor patients during treatment and record vital signs every 30 minutes.
• Respond appropriately to machine alarms and immediately coordinate with the Hemodialysis Nurse for proper action.
• Assist with dialysate refilling when necessary.
• Assist patients after treatment, including post-treatment weighing and preparation for discharge.
• Assist patients with transportation to their relatives or designated areas after treatment.
• Assist with patient pick-up and drop-off through the Patient Transport Vehicle when assigned.
• Assist in maintaining proper patient flow and crowd control in the waiting and treatment areas.
• Ensure cleanliness and readiness of dialysis chairs, treatment areas, supplies, equipment, patient charts, and other necessary materials before each treatment set.
• Follow strict infection control, aseptic technique, and patient safety protocols.
• Assist with laboratory specimen handling and coordination with the laboratory as assigned.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records, vital signs monitoring forms, logbooks, and other required documentation.
• Perform assigned clerical duties such as filing, laboratory requisitions, answering calls, releasing records, and requesting medications or supplies.
• Monitor and report concerns regarding equipment, oxygen supplies, and other clinical needs.
• Coordinate with the Hemodialysis Nurse and other members of the clinical team regarding patient care and operational concerns.
• Participate in emergency response activities and follow established safety and emergency protocols.
• Participate in required training, quality improvement activities, and company programs.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• Preferably at least 1 year of experience as a Patient Care Technician or relevant experience in a dialysis/healthcare setting.
• High school graduate, GED, or graduate of a relevant vocational short course (e.g., Caregiving, Certified Nurse Assistant, Hospital or clinic patient care, Elderly or home-based patient care).

• Bachelor’s degree in any Allied Health science course is highly preferred but not required.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and other necessary software applications.
• Knowledge of hemodialysis procedures, infection control, and patient care practices.
• Able to take responsibility and work effectively under pressure.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing duties, schedules, and workloads.
• Able to work independently and take initiative.
• Maintains calmness and composure when dealing with anxious, elderly, or high-risk patients.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

• Willing to work on shifting schedules, including early morning, afternoon, and evening shifts.
