Job summary

Copeland, a global climate technologies company, seeks a Patent Analyst to assess patentability and track new patents within HVACR-related consumer products. You will develop search strategies, perform prior art searches, and prepare concise reports for Legal and R&D teams.

The role is full-time with a hybrid work setup (on-site three times per week) in Metro Manila. Candidates should have 3–5 years in R&D/IP and strong technical writing skills to support patent disclosures and filings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's/college degree in engineering (Chemical, Materials Science, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, or Environmental/Health/Safety) required.
• 3–5 years in R&D, quality control, product development, design engineering, or process engineering.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Experience in technical writing or patent searching preferred.
• Willing to work hybrid (on-site 3 days/week) and Filipino citizen.
• Full-time employment availability.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patentability and invalidity assessments via comprehensive prior art searches.
• Develop and refine search strategies, keywords, and classification queries.
• Monitor newly published and granted patents and identify relevant risks or opportunities.
• Prepare patent summaries, abstracts, and reports for stakeholders.
• Support engineering and R&D teams in patent filings and disclosures.
• Perform patent landscape analysis, technology mapping, and competitive intelligence.
• Carry out FTO and patent watch activities to mitigate infringement risks.
• Maintain organized IP documentation with high quality.

Requirements:

• Must possess at least a Bachelor’s/College Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Materials Science, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, or Environmental/Health/Safety) or a related field.
• Preferably with experience or knowledge in technical writing and patent searching.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in any of the following areas: research and development (R&D), quality control, product development, design engineering, or process engineering.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in technical documentation or publication writing is an advantage.
• Willing to work on a hybrid work setup (on-site is thrice per week).
• Applicants must be Filipino citizens.
• Must be available for full-time employment.
• Work Shift: 9:00AM to 6:00PM Monday to Friday

Responsibilities:

• Conduct patentability and invalidity assessments of inventions by performing comprehensive prior art searches using patent databases, technical manuals, journals, and other reliable sources.
• Develop and refine search strategies, keywords, and classification queries aligned with evolving business and technical priorities.
• Monitor and track newly published and granted patents, identifying those relevant to business interests and potential risks or opportunities.
• Prepare clear and concise patent summaries, abstracts, and reports, and effectively communicate findings to stakeholders (e.g., Legal, R&D, and business teams).
• Perform in-depth patent and intellectual property analysis within the HVAC related industry consumer products and related industries.
• Support engineering and R&D teams in identifying patentable innovations, drafting invention disclosures, and preparing technical documentation for patent filings.
• Conduct patent landscape analysis, technology mapping, and competitive intelligence to guide strategic decision-making.
• Carry out freedom-to-operate (FTO) and patent watch activities to help mitigate infringement risks and ensure IP compliance.
• Analyze global patent filing trends to anticipate competitor activity and emerging market directions.
• Maintain organized documentation and ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality of IP-related reports and records.
