Job summary

SMEC is seeking a Civil Inspector – Upper Basin to supervise on-site activities for dam and hydropower projects. You will ensure safety, quality, and conformance with designs, while coordinating with resident engineers, HSE staff, and contractors.

The role emphasizes documenting inspections, managing NCRs, and supporting project handover. A civil engineering background with 7–10 years’ related experience is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or related field.
• 7–10 years of experience in hydropower, dam, or water resources projects.
• 3–5 years in construction phase with inspection responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Implement project-specific HSE plans for upper basin construction works.
• Identify hazards related to earthworks, slopes, water bodies, blasting, and heavy equipment.
• Review RAMS and ensure implementation of safety/method statements.
• Coordinate with HSE officers, contractors, and client representatives on site controls.
• Inspect upper basin works (intakes, canals, tunnels/portals, access roads) for compliance.
• Verify drawings, specifications, and standards; monitor workmanship and materials.
• Record NCRs, corrective actions, and maintain inspection diaries and photos.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inspection/site reports.
• Assist in completion, as-built, and handover documentation.
• Ensure proper filing and traceability of inspection records.
