Job description

Job Title: Manual Machinist / CNC Setup Machinist 1st Shift (MondayThursday, 6:00 a.m.4:30 p.m.)
Job Description

This role combines hands-on manual machining with CNC setup and production support on a first-shift schedule. You will set up and operate manual mills and related equipment, interpret blueprints, inspect parts with precision measuring tools, and support CNC production by running proven jobs and performing basic setups. The position requires a self-starter who can work with limited supervision, move seamlessly between manual and CNC work, and consistently produce high-quality parts within specified tolerances.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate Bridgeport-type milling machines and radial-arm drills to produce parts to specification.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to independently manufacture parts within required tolerances.
  • Tram mill heads and vises, secure and locate workpieces, touch off parts, use edge finders, set tools, drill holes to specified locations, and cut stock to size.
  • Inspect parts using micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools to verify dimensional accuracy and quality.
  • Support CNC production by loading fixtures, touching off tools and parts, setting offsets, and completing basic CNC machine setups.
  • Run proven CNC production jobs using established programs, setup sheets, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the machining team while independently executing assigned jobs with limited supervision.
  • Shift between manual machining and CNC production based on staffing and production requirements.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas while following shop procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in machining decisions, including tool selection, setup methods, and process adjustments to achieve acceptable first-part quality and consistent output.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on manual machining experience beyond simple loading and basic CNC operation.
  • Experience setting up and operating Bridgeport-type mills or comparable manual milling equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and make parts directly from drawings.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools, including micrometers and gauges.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform manual setups and make independent machining decisions.
  • Ability to produce an acceptable first part and maintain reasonable machining tolerances.
  • Willingness and flexibility to perform both manual and CNC work as production needs require.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • CNC setup experience, including probing, touching off tools and parts, loading fixtures, and setting offsets.
  • Tool-and-die experience with strong manual machining skills.
  • Experience working from established CNC programs, setup sheets, and first-article documentation.
  • Interest in cross‑training: candidates with strong manual machining skills who want to learn CNC, or those with strong CNC setup skills who want to develop manual machining skills, are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working with Haas mills or similar CNC equipment is beneficial.
  • Background in troubleshooting, changeovers, and working in a production machining environment.
Why Work Here?

The organization offers a supportive, people-focused culture where strong attendance and reliability are recognized and rewarded. Full-time employees can earn monthly attendance bonuses, discretionary bonuses tied to performance and reliability, and referral bonuses for helping bring in great teammates. Benefits eligibility begins after a short waiting period, and the team fosters a fun, engaging environment with activities such as pizza parties and regular opportunities to share anonymous feedback through a "moral gauge" system. Safety is a core priority, with safety rewards in place, and the average tenure of 78 years among a lean team reflects a stable workplace with low turnover and long‑term growth potential.

Work Environment

The facility is a new, clean, and well-lit manufacturing environment designed for efficient manual and CNC machining operations. The shop floor can occasionally feel cold due to large bay doors being open, so appropriate work attire for varying temperatures is recommended. Team members work a first-shift schedule from Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the possibility of overtime on Fridays as production demands require. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and collaboration, with modern equipment and a layout that supports both manual mills and CNC machines, including Haas mills and related tooling.
