Job summary

The role focuses on AS400/Mainframe systems within the mortgage domain, combining manual and automation testing, API testing, and end-to-end validation.

You will design test strategies, implement automation using Java, Selenium WebDriver, and Cucumber.js, and ensure quality across CI/CD pipelines in a hybrid work setup at BGC.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of QA experience in quality assurance roles with automation testing experience.
• Experience testing legacy mainframe applications is required.
• Hands-on experience with API testing and integration tests.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Quality Engineer to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of enterprise applications, with a strong focus on AS400/Mainframe-based systems within the mortgage domain. This role combines both manual and automation testing and requires expertise in API testing, test automation frameworks, and end-to-end system validation. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience testing legacy mainframe applications while supporting modern integration technologies. They will work closely with developers, business analysts, and product teams to deliver high-quality software through comprehensive testing strategies and continuous quality improvement.

Your Responsibilities

• Test Planning & Execution
  • Design, develop, and execute comprehensive manual and automated test cases based on business and technical requirements.
  • Develop effective test strategies, test plans, and testing approaches for enterprise applications.
  • Create and maintain reusable automated test scripts for functional, regression, integration, and API testing.
  • Perform manual testing for features that require exploratory, usability, or complex business validation.
  • Execute end-to-end testing across multiple integrated systems and applications.
  • Validate business workflows, particularly within mortgage servicing and lending applications.
• Automation Testing
  • Develop and maintain automation frameworks using Java, Selenium WebDriver, and Cucumber.js.
  • Build and enhance automated regression test suites.
  • Review, audit, and improve existing automation code to ensure maintainability and scalability.
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines for continuous testing.
• API & Integration Testing
  • Perform API testing using Postman, Rest Assured, and other API testing tools.
  • Validate RESTful web services and system integrations.
  • Verify data integrity between mainframe applications and downstream systems.
  • Test service integrations, middleware, and end-to-end business processes.
• Mainframe & AS400 Testing
  • Perform functional and integration testing of AS400 and Mainframe-based applications.
  • Validate batch processing, backend transactions, and legacy application functionality.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure compatibility between legacy systems and modern applications.
  • Support testing efforts during system enhancements, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
• Defect Management
  • Identify, reproduce, document, prioritize, and track software defects.
  • Perform root cause analysis and work closely with development teams to resolve issues.
  • Validate defect fixes through retesting and regression testing.
  • Ensure defects are documented with sufficient technical detail for efficient resolution.
• Quality Assurance & Documentation
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for testing procedures, test cases, and execution results.
  • Develop and manage test data to support various testing scenarios.
  • Ensure compliance with QA standards, testing methodologies, and best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes and testing frameworks.
• Collaboration
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Developers, and Solution Architects to ensure quality throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Provide testing estimates and risk assessments for project deliverables.
  • Take ownership of assigned products and testing initiatives from planning through production deployment.

What We're Looking For

• Hands on experience in mortgages domain
• At least 5 years of work experience in Quality Assurance roles with functional and automation testing experience
• API Testing – solid hands-on experience with API integration tests
• Experience in Web Services and API testing using tools like Postman, Rest Assured
• Selenium Webdriver, Cucumber.js, Java test automation frameworks – demonstrated competency in developing, auditing and reviewing code
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Maven, Azure DevOps and Jenkins
• Knowledge of testing integrations, end-to-end system processes
• Discovering, reproducing, prioritizing, retesting, and documenting software defects
• Knowledge of managing test strategies, test data, defect management and quality assurance best practices
